I must say Marty has a good show . Great musicians also . Has some great guest . But i have a question if you dont mind . Lately it seems to me that Mr. Carpenters steel is a little low in volume . Is it just me or what ? I hope i'm not being rude or mean it's not my intention . Mr. Carpenter is a great steel player . Yes i already know that steel players are hard of hearing . LOL .

Gary,
I agree.
I have never been to a show with a steel player that was loud enough for me.

There is no Mr. "Carpenter" that plays steel on the "Marty Stweart" show.
Gary Carter plays steel on the Marty Stuart show.

That Carter feller has a great looking steel. He needs to be allowed to play it more though. _________________ You can observe a lot just by looking |

You guys need a better sounding TV with a Sound bar,. My only fault with Stuarts playing is he does too many steel licks when he does have Gary playing with him. Great sounding Tele but no need for all the Mooney licks when Gary's on the steel. However I hear the steel and the fills Gary adds nice and clear thru my Samsung sound bar. In the Den I have a Bose set up that's even better. |

I agree, Gary's volume is to low but the guitars sound off, the person running the audio must be a guitar lover, they all play the instruments great, so the volume for all should be equal, just my opinion |

One of my favorite shows is the Marty Stuart Show.
I really enjoy Gary Carter's Steel playing. His Steel CD is great too!

It all sounds very well mixed to me coming through Dish Network into a Yamaha receiver & 7 Paradigm speakers & subwoofer. Almost like being there!
Gary no doubt is equally as good as the rest of the band & is equally mixed to my ears! The amount of playing time he gets is of course subjective & I'm sure we are all a little prejudiced toward the steel but all things considered I am happy with everything about the show. I can certainly get into some hot/soulful guitar playing as well! _________________ MSA Millennium S-12U

My favorite shows on RFD are Marty Stuart show and the Presley's show.
I agree with you Gary, the steel is low in the mix on both shows to me. _________________ Henry Matthews

I am quite certain that Gary does not have the artistic freedom one would hope to have on this show. That includes everything from his cloths to his tone.
Gary is a world class player. His performances on this show are just a peek through a narrow window of his capabilities.
I have been trying to talk Gary for over a year now into attending some of the larger steel guitar shows. If he ever agrees, you need to go see this guy. He is truly a different kind if player. Very refreshing to my ears.
Anyone that promotes the larger shows and has not invited Gary to play, you have been fumbling the ball. |

Unfortunately, Gary Carter isn't part of Marty Stuart's band. He's a member of Connie Smith's band and that's why he isn't featured on every song. I love his playing and I also love the Mooney licks that Marty gets out of Clarence White's old B-Bender Telecaster... Our band opened for Marty's group years ago, before he had the Superlatives, when he had the late Gary Hogue on steel. They did a 90 minute show and Gary was off stage all told for at least a third of the time. Some of the tunes he was off stage for, I thought could have used him.......JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

I suppose we all have our opinion about what we want to hear . But coming through a regular T.V. Gary's steel is half as loud as Marty or the other guy . We all know Gary isn't a part of Marty's band but that shouldn't make any difference to a '' Pro '' sound man . This is a reflection on the sound tech . in my opinion . If it were me i would give every player the best sound i could . Just sayin . |

Sid, Gary came out to the last Atlanta Show. He had never been to a steel show and wanted to see first-hand what the format is! He should be invited in the the future by all promoters..He is really a great talent. |

I certainly can't explain why the steel would be half as loud through your TV speakers, but I have read complaints about this several times before. I only listen through my stereo because the sound "quality" is much better, probably close to being there.
However, on Dish Network, the show is broadcast on Family Net as well as RFD, at the same time. Here is what I've noticed between the 2 different stations on the same show. Family Net has a slightly louder volume but RFD has a better sound quality. The "mix" is the same just better quality on RFD & that may be because RFD is in "High Definition". I thought that only applied to the video quality but maybe it enhances the audio as well. So I watch it on RFD and just turn it up a little.
So from what I hear on either station, I don't think the sound man is intentionally mixing the steel lower because Gary is just as loud as Marty or Kenny when he is on a ride or doing fills on my system. I will try to remember to listen through the TV speakers & see if he seems lower that way.
Again, I can't explain why it sounds that way on your or anyone's TV but I believe it does because I've heard many other complaints about it. I just haven't experienced it myself on any of the shows and I think I have seen most all of them. So that leads me to believe it's a problem with the cable carrier, electronics, speaker range or something else but not from the "mix" at the show. If it were the mix, it would have to affect everybody. _________________ MSA Millennium S-12U

Well all i can say is that Gary isn't as loud as Marty or Kenny . I know a lot of people have some type of high price T.V. systems with maybe power amps etc . If you have special effects hooked to your T.V. then i suppose you can hear better , i don't know how that works . One thing i do know is we have a very good T.V. and there shouldn't be any kind of sound drop . As you said several people have made the same kind of complaint that i have . The post still stands . |

Gary, mines same way. I have to really struggle to hear Gary Carter when he takes a ride. Can't hear him at all playing backup. Now on Wilburn brothers show, Hal is right up there in the mix. I also hear the steel on Tru-Country with no problem. I've got a big screen tv with good sound so don't think it's my TV. _________________ Henry Matthews

One thing to remember "Its the Marty Stuart Show" Featuring Marty Stuart and the superlatives. And they are that. Is there an instrument that Paul Martin can't play? |

Joe regardless of who's show it is it;s all about being a professional . I said it before we all know who's show it is . If Marty just wanted his guys to play and be heard then DON'T have Gary playing . Doesn't that make sense to everyone ??? |

Gary had a great time at our Atlanta show. We were planning on him to be the guest in June. However, his regular gigs conflicted in the end. We will be trying in the future. _________________ Bill Cunningham

I have a great sony TV and a great sound system. I don't have a problem listening to the steel on any other program. I quit watching Marty Stuart 2 or 3 weeks ago because I have been so disgusted with him allowing the steel to be either turned down so low or turned off. I think he only has Gary because Connie wants him and he must be jealous. Whatever the reason, Gary Carter is too good to be treated this way. I will not waste my time watching him again. _________________ Carter 12 string 4petals 5knees, Mullen G2 3 petals 4 knees
