How do I get rid of mike stand bases??????

Since I repair and build guitars I use mike stands for legs. The problem-what do I do with several hundred mike stand bases.??? Tie them to banjo's and toss in the river?{Just kidding} I have used them for little ties with a swivel so my dog can be under control. Also as Scratching poles for cats.I would like to turn them into money and donate to animal welfare etc. Any suggestions??? Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works

Ed, since you're a "manufacturer", you should be able to get parts of mike stands from Atlas or whoever else makes them. You have been taking delivery of a part that you don't need, that is expensive to ship. It's a waste of money, fuel and (potentially) landfill. Stop buying complete mike stands!

b0b- I sincerely believe this is "Technical" since legs are important for steels.Just yesterday I got 3 orders for legs.ALL DIFFERENT. When possible I go directly to the distributer and buy saving lots on shipping.Over the years I have dealt with Mfg. To buy "Separately" from them is hard to do because of their quantity requirements. It is more practical for me to buy with base. I am sure somebody has an idea. ED

I once took a base that had the threads stripped out, drilled out the hole bigger and slipped it down over tube part of a new stand that I used a boom on to add weight to it so drunks couldn't knock it over so easy!
You can do the same thing with an old barbell weight too.

Give me your thoughts on this---A"Doorstop" type arrangement that is placed next to a door with and "Extender" that sets off an alarm with the slightest movement at the door. Would people that travel and stay in Motels consider this.???? Ed. Come on - give me some ideas.

1)You could bring them to your local junk yard and cash them in for cast iron, it wouldn't be a whole lot of money, but it would be something, and they would be recycled. (I got eight bucks for an old bathtub once)

2)A bunch of them chained together would make a good boat anchor or mooring.

Two suggestions ED. Go to the hardware store and purchase some of the conduit clamps and bolt them on the back, do two of them and then you can have a set of castanetts. Of course you are going to have to learn to dance to demonstrate this item but it may be a hot seller.

While you are at he hardware store you could purchase some leather straps and bolt them the the back of a pair, now you have a set of cymbals, probably not the same tone as a set of Zildjians but remember tone is usually produced to some degree by the hands. With enough practice I am sure you can develope tone. I was trying to figure some way to make finger picks out of them but its too hard to bend them for a custom fit.

Donny, you may get the prize for the best idea. First prize is a dozen mike bases shipped to you COD from ED.

Ed, take them to the same place you took the pedal steel for the chimps to try. I bet they can come up with an idea. I remember in the tape how one of them was pre-stretching the strings before he played.

With the center hole you can use them to zoom in on a TV or computer monitor. Cool !!!!!!!!!!!

Make a bracket and use it as a POD XT holder.

Send them to IRAQ to protect the Jeep bottoms from land mines.

Sell them as paper weights.

Stack them and sell them as a stationary, adjustable height, steel guitar seat with limited storage and built in toilet.

Use them as covers for stove elements (you won't have to clean the stove as often)

Put several flashing LED's (Flashing lights - they will look great in the dark) in the center and spread them all over town. Call the National Inquiry and tell them that you think that you have been invaded by UFO's . They will send you big bucks for the pictures. Don't forget a little fog for effect.

Sell them as lawn covers (no more mowing)

You can sell them to the new Sierra Guitar Company as guitar feet. It should lighten up their guitars.

Sell them to AOL so that they can tell share holders that they now own something that has real value.

Sell them to the Chinese as designer hats (hey, with 1.3 billion people someone must need a new hat) (don't forget the made in Canada stickers)

Speaking of the Chinese they are anxious to build a space station ASAP. They may want them as platforms.

Walt Jones- I forgot about the CHIMPS . As you saw in the video they know the first thing is to "Tune" it and "Pull" the strings to test for breakage. One thing Steelers haven't learned is to put the bar in your mouth then through it acroos the room. Also they have a "Headstart" by pressing the pedals with their head. And you must remember "THIS THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW A STEEL" ED

When you get junk mail that contains "No Postage Necessary if Mailed in the U.S." envelopes, (they pay the postage), paste it onto the mic base and drop it in the mail box. Not only will you get rid of the bases, you'll get rid of those pain in the neck companies.
