Topic: Stolen, Herby Wallace D-10 Sierra and Hatton Case w/wheels |

Just got word that my Sierra 8 x 5, Hatton case w/ wheels and small amp got stolen along with alot of vintage guitars new guitars and amps of other musicians from someones rehearsal room, My loss was not as bad as the owner of the mansions loss, But still a loss, Please be on the lookout, These guys were pros.

Thanks Benjamin, I dont know how true the last phone call was just now. and I`m having a hard time believing it BUT... They said everything is gone but the big Herby Wallace pedal steel guitar (85#) ????????????
did they not know what it was ?
was it to heavy ?
was it someone that knew me ?
I`m really baffled right now !!!???
Maybe a thief with a bad back ?
I will keep you all posted when I see this guitar again

Actually that's kinda insulting  . Twice I've left the door to the shop unlocked for the weekend and both times when I returned the alarm was still set and unperturbed . Once a customer's Emmons was stolen in the case from the back of his pickup truck while he was in getting a cup of coffee and found a hundred miles away on the side of the road- unhurt- when they found out it was a steel guitar! |

I had someone break into my house a few years ago. They walked around my MSA to get to the TV and stereo but left the steel guitar.  |

one time I had a couple of guys forced their way into my apartment, as soon as they saw my banjo sitting in the living room, they turned around and ran away, my girlfriend tried to give them 100 bucks to take it, but they refused it, it seemed they were in a hurry

| Well they broke into my house through the basement window and tried to disable the alarm but couldn't, so they went up stairs and tried to get out the side door but could not unlock a double sided key dead bolt, I guess they were getting scared by now, they went into dinning room where my steel guitars were and my amps, guess they decided it was too much for them to take any thing and left it all, and bolted for front door, so nothing was taken. I finally got my steel back last night,
5 out of the 6 , 6 string guitars are back in the owners posession.
One was not found which was a Guild acoustic,
The thief was caught and possibly getting 3-5 years for breakling and entering and thieving,
The older guitars had no strings on them for some reason.
The owner notified every pawn and music shop in the county right away, which did help the case a little.
the cops were the biggest asset, I guess when your a lawyer you have a lot of cop buddies.
One thing I`ve learned is to insure your stuff when leaving it anywhere, I got lucky here.

In order to deter thieves, i suggest a stencil for all steel guitar cases that simply says "BAGPIPES", or "ACCORDIAN"

Or just put "Steel Guitar" on it along with the weight. I'm glad you got your steel back. I lost one a while back and its no fun.

A word about insurance and theft. If you leave your guitar and equipment at a place where you play regular such as I do be sure you check with the owner of the facility to check his coverage. I heard of one player whose guitar was stolen and insurance would would not cover it as it was not a permanent part of the building.

When my gospel quartet traveled and sang, I had a rider on my homeowners policy that covered everything no matter where it was, in the trailer, set up at a church, etc. Even covered damage due to automobile accident.

Great news. I had a pedal steel (Little Buddy) I think stolen from my deceased father's house shortly after he passed away. Not much of a guitar but would have liked to have it for sentimental reasons...however they missed his '37 Gibson that was worth more, and also had much more sentimental value as it is the one he used during most of his playing years, and the one I remember hearing him play growing up.

glad you got the stuff back.
however, i had a little difficulty conjuring up much compassion for any 'owner of the mansion' lawyer type dude who probably had insurance that would have seen him come out ahead.
speaking from below the poverty line.. |

Thanks Chris , We were all insulted, that the thief didnt take it, and yes the big cahuna asked me right away how much of an order amount for the insurance to pay as he called me from Tampa,and I only stepped it up a couple hundred. What a ride.
