I put a feel stop on my 2nd string lower today, a job I've been putting off until it really mattered. Up till now I'd only been using it to get a dominant seventh, but I needed an accurate fifth below the raised 3rd to play the tab below (intro to Devil's Alley) which I'd got from this

It's double-tracked (don't know why) but I think what I have is close enough. Who was the steel player - Don Warden? _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

If that tab is accurate, I doubt it is Don. I may be wrong, but I think he only had the A & B pedals and no knee levers. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Richard, I think you may have just explained why it's double-tracked. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Definitely not Don. Sounds more like Weldon to me, as he did a few cuts with Porter at one time. |

Why wouldn't you just play that 10LL note on the 5th string? _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video

Donny - are you absolutely sure of that? You know that you have been accredited as having cardboard ears!! Not many of us can boast that one!! _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. b0b, I'm sure there are lots of ways - you could do the second phrase on 4 & 6 without breaking the slur, but the sound would change. But crucially, I've ended up fitting the stop, a job I still wouldn't have done otherwise
It's worth pointing out that I didn't work out the tab directly on the guitar - I'm not fluent enough. I wrote down what I could hear in notation, then figured where on the neck to find the sounds. I find it quicker in the end _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

I so rarely use the full step lower that I've put it on a pedal. I use the half step (D# to D) constantly. I've never found a half stop mechanism that was firm enough for me to play in tune all the time. It's just the way I play - I hit the lever too hard sometimes. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I use that 2nd string to C# lower all of the time when playing the E neck. Couldn't do without it. Nor the Eb raise to E. The D note is less critical for me. It's funny how we arrive at our musical styles and develop our pedal set-ups to suit. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. The stop I've fitted is adjustable for firmness, but I have to admit that I need to put a stronger spring in it, as I do tend to push too hard sometimes when I get excited - which is quite often, I'm glad to say! _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Ken, on this side of the pond, even cardboard ears can hear when someone's using knee levers! |
