I believe I have seen somebody say that the Jerry Byrd Steel Guitar course specified a string set that could be retuned to the several tunings addressed in the course. What gauges would you use to be able to do this, or did you actually have to change certain strings between the tunings?

Anyone that has ever enjoyed watching a JERRY BYRD live performance........in person or by video.......
must realize that Jerry routinely changed tunings from C to C#min and/or others while on stage without a tuning device or changing of strings.

A good set of C6th strings, not el cheapo's, but a quality string set, should be able to make the minimal half tone +/- changes without difficulty.

If you'll lay out on a piece of paper, the several tunings you have in mind, with the top #1 string "E" on each tuning evenly placed, side by side. One can readily see that the majority of changes required actually place little or no real stress on those strings.
