This looks like a floor-standing wood-cabinet (maple?) radio (the guts were manufactured by the Pilot Radio Co.) but it's a SLENDA VOGUE reducing machine--probably from the 1940s. Cool chickenhead knobs, orange lamps and meter. Apparently there were electrodes or probes (see row of red and black inputs on face) that emitted electrical stimuli to the patient. Mechanical timer. 6L6 tubes!

Needs a little TLC: one of the areas around a rear caster socket needs repair to the cabinet so it will hold the caster socket in place. (I have the rear casters and sockets.) The masonite back panel finally broke in half but should be repaired and reinforced because it holds a power-cord storage compartment.

One large drawer and storage cubbies behind the two front doors. (I gave this to friends years ago and they gave it back to me recently when they ran out of room. I've left their green Saran Wrap in place.)

Great design or decor item unless you can somehow rejigger the power chassis into something that will drive a vintage amplifier or radio. It powers up, tubes and the front panel lamps come on, but a 70+-year-old power cord gives me the willies.

Local pickup only in La Crescenta CA 91214 (LA area) $25 cash in person. Make the drive, call a relative with a pickup truck--you won't see another one of these anytime soon.

Ben, this would make a very cool amp project. I did one a while back using a early mid '30s Stromberg-Carlson radio. The cab and chassis now house a tweed Princeton circuit. Left knob is tone, right knob is volume. The center lever is the power switch and the original tuner lever, top center still moves the dial pointer. The dial was modded to light up at the pilot lamp.

If I had the space I'd drive up,buy your divice and perform surgery on it. The Stromberg was a very rewarding project.

Radio amp:

Ben, if you don't sell it, get yourself some electrodes. According to this ad. . . you can make $1.50 per treatment session.

All the best,
Craig
