Looking for some info and advice.
I have an old Sho-Bud with a re-worked undercarriage by Bernard Curnow, a steel maker from Cornwall, England, now retired.
I can only drop my second string from D# to D on RKR, and would like to fit a half-stop, assuming this is a 'gizmo' one can buy 'off the shelf'.
Is that the case? Is it simply a case of 'breaking' the pull rod and putting said half-stop in the gap?
From this inquiry, you might guess I have all the engineering know-how of a cocker spaniel and I can follow instructions from A to B as long as there are helpful clues along the way. I can assemble flat pack furniture, if you're not too bothered about doors.
If such a simple, single gizmo can be purchased, where would I get one? Jim Palenscar? Michael Yahl?
All advice gratefully received, especially drawings, plans, instruction manuals or You Tube videos!!! _________________ Ben-Rom #017 'Lorelei', Guild D25, Epiphone 'Joe Pass', Roland 40XL, Hilton VP

Don't cut the rod!! It gets its own bellcrank, I'll try to find some pics of it. Both Jim Palenscar and Tom Bradshaw sell them. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

+1 to James. The two I mentioned were likely to be the MSA style, and James will have the Bud.
The only real difference lies in aesthetics, but if you have an old Bud, might as well use Bud stuff (and you'll have a different shaft size). _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Some steelers don't use a 1/2 stop mechanism.
They use another pull rod, possibly attached to the 9th string and adjust that for the 1/2 feel stop. |
