Topic: 10 string Lap Steel in the making |

I am converting my MSA Classic D 10 to a SD 10 and taking the C6 neck and making a 10 string lap steel. Here are some pics of what it will look like but the wood that is on it now is just plain pine that's not dried or seasoned because Hardwood is not easy to come by around here anyway. Right now I am looking for some old hardwood furniture where I might find a good solid wood board about 1"x10"x4' that will not warp.

You may check around and find some discarded doors from a demolition site. Many of them are made of really nice hardwood that can be cleaned up and recycled.  |

They actually had some decent maple on the rack at the Lowes in Alamogordo when I was there. Not that plain pine is that bad either -- check out Bill Kirchens' pine Teles. Harder wood is more resistant to bumps and bruises. If you look around, you might even find a piece of local mesquite.

Very cool idea, John. Are you planning to replace the rollers with a solid nut? There have been some interesting discussions on the forum about solid vs. roller tonal differences. Have fun with this project and please keep us all updated.
