My favorite steel solo has always been Lloyd Green's on Johnny Paycheck's "Apartment #9." I love the tone and execution.
What's yours? |

This one, from approximately 1:10 to 1:25:

15 seconds of full-on bliss played with reckless abandon and the confidence (and chops) to pull it off.
The great Buddy Emmons, of course. |

My favorite solo is Buddy Emmons' 2nd solo on "Killer Joe" on the live Redneck Jazz Explosion album with Danny Gatton. That solo really helped me make the leap from jazz theory to playing on the 6-string guitar.
My favorite pedal steel track is Buddy's "Danny Boy" with Ernest Tubb.

I just got my first pedal steel two months ago. I told my wife when I ordered it, if I do nothing more than learn Together Again then I can die a happy man! |

Here's my top 3. narrowing it down further is impossible.
Together Again
Lloyd Maines on James Hand's "Leave the Lonely Alone" (which I couldn't find a link to on the internet)
Jeremy Wakefield on Wayne Hancock's "Goin Back to Texas" (probably the reason I took up steel in the first place)

great thread Kyle! There's so much good steel playing here to enjoy! _________________ What's that weird twangy slide thingy? |

Also, all the solos Tom Brumley done with Rick Nelson.
Love that west coast stuff.
