I just found Hank's Hawaii lp, titled, "Snow In Hawaii". RCA LSP 3737.Date on lp is 1967. Sounds like the Glaser Bros doing vocals.
Its great and if you Hawaiian guys don't have it, get it.
If anyone has info on the lp, whos the steel player? I thought at first Jerry Byrd, but the more I listen sounds like Kayton Roberts. Any ideas?
Sounds like Hank's lead picking too, nice tasty with the steel.
Great Hawaiian lp, even though I never thought Hawaiian and Hank Snow would work together, but they do-perfectly.
Let me know if anyone knows: Whos the steel player?

i thought it was Jerry also, but according to the liner notes in the Bear Family reissued CD it isn't him - i'm not sure, but Big Jim Talbert comes to mind. i will check the cd when i get a chance.
the CD has 28 cuts which are compiled from a few of Hanks Hawaiian style. there are a few steelers on the cuts, but i didn't see JB (or Kayton) in the credits - i could be wrong, its been a while - he could have easily been on a couple.

ok - here are the steelers listed in the credits for those sessions - doesnt give a breakdown
Joseph Hale Talbot, III (Big Joe)
Jerry Byrd

other Hank steelers listed on the reissue CD
Eugene 'Johnny' Beaudoin
Marvin Buford Gentry
Kayton Roberts

i'm glad i was wrong on the no JB in the credits because it was SO much like his style i found it hard to believe it could be someone else.

Jerome, sorry about stepping on your post, guess my hunt and pecking was too slow. There was later some overdubbing on several of the cuts.

I have the original LP (haven't listened to it in years), but it's Jerry only. Sounds like the Bear family reissue has more cuts taken from various "Hawaiian" songs that Hank did with other steelers from different recording sessions in his career...

Thanks Jeff, I have been searching for that original LP. At least the Bear Family included part of his early history that I already knew from his Bluebird recordings in Canada. To my sorrow, most of my old 78's were lost in Hurricane Ike a few years ago. Sorry I could not make it to Dallas this year due to some health issues. Hope to see you at the Jamboree next year.
