Cost: Deluxe Option – $750 Standard Option – $575
Classes meet Sat., 9am – 5pm & Sun., 9am – 4pm
This workshop includes: lecture, demonstration and hands on experience in the construction of a lap steel guitar with Joe Vallee. Students will have the option of two models and will end up with a fully functioning lap steel in the raw (no finish). Students will start with an alder body blank and have the option of designing their own body shape or working from several pre-existing templates. All lap steel projects will be a 23 inch scale length. Prices include all of the wood, hardware and electronics required to complete your lap steel.
Options:
Standard: Standard lap steel made from alder with a P90 pickup and wraparound style bridge.
Deluxe: Upgraded model includes Lollar Chicago Steel pickup and custom made BR9 style bridge.
Both models include a bar slide.

I used to work with Joe when he was one of the guitar repair guys at a music store in Tucson. He's toured with the Doobie Brothers as guitar tech and is a funny guy. If I had the money, I'd be all over this. I never knew him to be into lap steel, but he's got the chops for building instruments. He did the finish work and final assembly of a parts-Strat I put together. |
