I think I got Fast Fix trial from downloading a new version of Quicktime. This morning it said I had 325 errors and of course I have to buy it to fix them.
I ran my Parteologic PC Health program and it found 93 errors which I fixed. Now when the computer rebooted to fix errors, Fast Fix says only 322 errors. I also use CCleaner.
Is it, as I suspect, Fast Fix is a bummer program? _________________ heavily medicated for your safety |

AVOID the registry repair programs, PC "fix" programs, speed up programs, etc like the plague. They do not help or speed up a PC and many times cause more problems than they claim to fix.
DO NOT run any, even the one on Ccleaner in Win 7 or Win 8. |

I run CCleaner every night, on both my Windows 7 machines, before shutting them down. The only precaution needed is to deselect "Unused file extensions" in the registry cleaner. I always have it save backups before making any changes. It has not caused me any problems yet. It is most useful for removing junk files. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

The "guru's" on the sevenforums.com all say not to run a registry "cleaner", including Ccleaner on Win 7 or Win 8.
I used to run Ccleaner registry occasionally but stopped about 6 months ago. |

I just have to register an emphatic "disagree" with any blanket advice not to use any "registry cleaners".
We've been here before. It goes without saying that, over time, Windows OS registries can and do become bloated with unnecessary entries that can and do slow down system performance.
I've said before, and I'll say again, SOME registry cleaners are absolute trash, and CAN do more harm than good. SOME registry cleaners are nothing more than "hooks", intended to "find" errors, then require that you pay to get the "errors" they find "fixed". I think this type is the most disgusting of all, and strongly recommend they be avoided.
HOWEVER...as I've posted in the past, I've been a paid subscriber of Macecraft Software jv16 Power Tools for at least 10 years. I use it regularly, and it has NEVER caused me one iota of grief. It just does what it says it will do - painlessly and efficiently rid the registry of needless entries, application uninstall leftovers, and any other registry entries that simply don't serve any purpose. The application also provides many other useful computer maintenance utilities too numerous to go into here. Suffice it to say it's quality registry hygiene software, and it will NOT damage anything. In the unlikely event it becomes necessary, one can simply restore any changes made. Simple.
I have no other interest in this product than I'm a totally satisfied user. I'd also note that it's in process of going "open source", and I don't have clarity on the ultimate result of that. |

I run Ccleaner from the advice of Wiz. I have not seen any problems.
While many people say do not run programs that clean the registry files, I am reminded once a few years ago when my XP computer had almost stalled completely. It would take hours to run a command that should take minutes. Finally I ran a registry fix program that took all night.
In the morning the computer was back to normal. That is why I run programs that clean the registry no matter what the "guru's" say.
I also just re-uped for 3 years of Trend Micro Maximum. _________________ heavily medicated for your safety |

I readily acknowledge there are people with vastly more knowledge and experience than I have with respect to dealing with Windows issues. I use those resources when I have issues of my own to resolve.
But there are just some things in which I prefer to "steer my own ship". Registry hygiene is one of them. |

I should mention another way that registry cleaners can be of assistance.
Whenever I uninstall a program I run the registry cleaner in CCleaner. It mops up left over entries about the program that the uninstaller left behind. Sometimes removing those leftovers is the only way to install a newer version of that program.
Also, when disinfecting a PC with MBAM, or your anti-virus tools, while the actual threat files may be removed, references to them can be left behind. CCleaner can clean them up for you. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum
