I think there should be,and I'd sign the petition in a minute, but I think it'd be important to know how BE feels about it.

Well, that's a Titanic-sized hole in the whole idea, isn't it?

"It's the world's gone crazy cotillion
The ladies are dancin' alone
Side men all want to be front men
And the front men all want to go home
The johnny-come-lately's are comin' in early
The early bird's showin' up late
The straight men all want to be funny
And the funny men all want to get straight" - Waylon Jennings ( SFAIK ) .

I wrote to the show, and they wrote me back, so they are a least open to suggestion. A petition would be an excellent idea. RC

An excellent idea, but as already suggested I think we need E's blessing before we proceed..

Hey, I am in Chicago and we vote early and often so I'd sign it 10 times over. Buddy is such a humble an modest individual, but I feel the music world, outside of Pedal Steel may not realize what a great contribution he has made. He is an inspiration to all of us, wannabe schmucks to can only hope to mimic even 1/10% of his talents. I can hope that this project could be done.

Here's a copy / paste of American masters response. At least they didn't say No

Dear Mr. Cld:

Thank you for taking the time to write to Thirteen/WNET suggesting an AMERICAN MASTERS program about GUITARIST BUDDY EMMONS.

Please know your voice counts and we have made a note of your suggestion in a report to the appropriate staff for review and future consideration.

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us and for your interest in public television.

Very truly yours,

Shirley L.

I'd feel a teeny bit more encouraged if they had at least called him "STEEL GUITARIST BUDDY EMMONS", thereby indicating that they weren't totally clueless...

I did not post my initial letter here, but I took the time to explain the history of the steel guitar, and Buddy's involvement with the invention of the instrument.

I tried to make it simple, as I knew that most people have trouble understanding the concept. In fact it is extremely difficult to explain the concept.

I just wanted them to know that the steel guitar is an 100% American invention and Buddy was part of the beginning.

Once again, at least she took the time to answer me.

If someone else wants to grab the bat and hit a couple of homers, maybe if thousands write a light bulb will light up.

I have created a Buddy Emmons group on Facebook. I was shocked that there was no tribute site. Today were are at 2,167 members, and every existing video is on that one site...in fact there is a video of Buddy that is no longer available, and it is "Jaw Dropping".
