Got an old dbl. 6 that sounds unique and great, always vying for best tones amongst the currently slimmed down quiver.
Whataya wanna know about 'em? |

Beyond the Carvin body and parts, it's just a complete sound of their own, and a good'n.
Always wondered why they never made a bigger impact, but I guess Leo marketed harder and made most players prefer that Fender sound.
I'd say take a chance on the one you saw. I might buy it off you if it's a dbl. 8 or 10 and you don't like it.

I've got a '65 8DHG-5B. It's solidly built and light weight. The pickup is pretty strong and bright, but the tone control rolls off the highs nicely. Despite looking like a P-90, the pickup sounds more like a Fender design.

I'v owned two carvins and they sounded great. I also had a Fender Delux and after playing a Carvin the Fender was too thin. |

Cool! It's interesting there is no marker at the fifth fret. And I like that tuners look like they would be easy to replace if needed.
Bill Dye here in Kansas City plays a Carvin triple-neck. |

I rewound one of Carvin's AP-8 pickups last fall for one of Alan Akaka's students ...
They are similar to P90s ... In appearance and basic design ...
But they are just an air coil that sits on top of the body ... Under the cover ... No bobbin, just a center plastic pole piece keeper ... Two small bar magnets that just lay under coil, up against the screw poles ...
The mounting screws had snapped off and I couldn't extract them ... So I had to mount it 0.5" up from where it was ...
Needless to say ... It wasn't a lot of fun ... Getting everything to fit under that tiny cover

Music to my ears, like a knife in Fender's back. |

Same here, Tom. I even got as far as having my credit card pulled from my wallet, and was about to dial Gruhn's number . . . . but I thought better of it.
I already have:
4 single 6's
1 double 6
1 triple 6
1 single 8
1 double 8
1 triple 8
1 single 10
2 square neck reso's

I don't even own 1 steel of any kind,or a steady job either. And she just put me on her medical from her job. So I'm going to count my blessings and try to save enough for one sometime in the future.I sure do miss playing! _________________ I wanna go back to my little grass shack........ |
