Has anyone ever thought of comming out with something like this?

It would be difficult to delvelop, with all the different tunings, but if kept simple, it could work.

Mel Bay has a "Finger Style" gig book. Why not for steel?

Maybe perhaps a book that would have kick offs, solos and endings tabbed for the particular song/tuning, but then have chord charts(nashville numbers) for the song.

This is too much for me to handle, but may give a steel player the material for basic practice and to get through a gig.

What are your thoughts? Is there such an animal out there?

Thanks,
Nick

Funny you should mention that. Before my last 10-2 gig, I tabbed out about 5 licks in a spiral notebook and brought it along to the show. Before each tune, I would reference the notebook for licks to work on in that tune. I used to try and do this by memory, but between tuning, trying to figure out the next tune, and other distractions, I would completely forget what I wanted to work on. The other guys in the group were making fun of me at first, but were impressed with the results, as was I.

That's a really good idea Todd, I'm gonna start doin that for practice and gigs. Hope it keeps me from falling into a rut.

As for the gig book, I wish there was a simple steel melody book, using the A&B pedals, with a bunch of country standards in it. Would be kinda cool. Ward
