Beautiful guitars Tony, I really like the sunburst, especially because of the difference in brightness: I really lights up in the middle  .
I have an older Zum, that I really like well, but it doesn't look that flashy.

Absolutely wonderful balance of classic sunburst figured maple and modern mechanics!!!!
I'm a lot more impressed with the appearance of this finish and materials than with plastic covered guitars.
The neck also appears to be maple too. If it is, how does this color the sound of the guitar as opposed to the aluminum neck Zums. |

I see them just fine. 
Other than the wooden necks, the colors of these guitars look quite similar to the two new Fessendens on Dana Flood's and Jerry Brightman's site. Does Mark Giles make Zum's bodies too?  |

Mike Sweeney -- Thanks, and I am looking forward to seeing you in Lexington at Fred's show.
Larry Jamieson -- Be sure to send a pic when you get yours. Bruce is sure building some awesome guitars!
Bill Hatcher -- The necks are maple on both my guitars, so I am unable to tell if there is a difference in tone. John Hughey has two lacquer Zums, one with wood necks and one with metal. I hope Mr. Hughey sees this, as maybe he will provide some insight into your question. I asked Bruce for maple necks on both my guitars; first because I like the looks of it and second because I hoped it would provide a smooth, mellow tone. (I prefer what most people call the Sho~Bud sound and I also own a nice Sho~Bud LDG that Duane Marrs and Jeff Surratt restored.)
Larry Petree asked about pickups in an e-mail so I thought I would answer his question here. The new sunburst guitar has the Jerry Wallace True-tone pickup. The blue guitar, which I've had about one year, has a Bill Lawrence 910. At this point, I've only been playing the new guitar for four days, but I am very happy with the True-tone pickup. It seems to have clear highs with no shrillness, excellent string separation and overall it seems smoother than the 910. I'll be playing it out tomorrow evening, so I should be able to tell a little more about it after that. It will be interesting to hear what the group I play with thinks about it.

By the way, I choose the sunburst finish because I liked the looks of Lloyd Green's Sho-Bud on his "Cool Steel Man" album cover. I believe it was also the "Live at Panther Hall" guitar. |

The reason some can see and some can't is because the saw them before the usage ran out and they are stored in their cookies.

nice,very nice,I can see them now.I would call that "Lloyd" color...  ..I think his fingertip looked almost the same as your Zum.Are those True Tone pick ups?Does it have that new techonology everyone is talking about?If so,what do you think about it?Thanks.

Tony,
I received my U-12 Zumsteel from Bruce, last June. It has a Lawrence 912 p-up, and I'm very happy with the tone. Just played it out at Frank Caruso's show, and got rave reviews from my brother steelplayers. It's a mica body with an aluminum neck. I love it!

All I can say is WOW !! Both your horns look great, but that sunburst just knocks me out. And I'm a single-coil guy so seeing them works for me.
Jim: As far as I know Bruce does all the work on the guitar bodies himself. I have owned four ZumSteels over the past 20 yrs. (still have two of 'em) and they've all been mica and all been great. But that sunburst... like I said, WOW !!

Really? I thought Mark Giles was doing almost all of the bodies out there. I love the Fessie bodies he has been doing.
Those are gorgeous Zums.
What is this I hear about a new Zum changer that is going to set everyone on their ears? What is so different about it?

Damir -- The blue Zum has a Bill Lawrence 910 and the sunburst Zum has the new True-tone pickup. I played out with the new guitar last night and the guys I play with all thought it sounded great.
I believe the only guitar that currently has the new technology changer belongs to Randy Beavers. Bruce told me he has some additional ideas to try before he goes into production with the new design. Randy goes into some detail on this subject in another post.
Also, I liked your names for the colors --"Lloyd Green sunburst and John Hughey blue." That's kind of cool since they are my two favorite players!
