How many of you.......were in the original JERRY BYRD
Fan Club presided over by Millie Annis, Grand Rapids, MI.?

If you can recall when you joined and how long you were an active member, please share it with us.

I wonder how many of us are left...........

I was a member Ray starting in 1963 and maintained membership for several years?
Probably until it ceased to be?

The above is a page from a 1963 issue. Very Happy

I belonged to the club in the 1950s.....too long ago to remember specific dates, but I did receive membership cards for several years as well as the newsletter from Millie.

And here I always tho't that there was a virtual army of loyal and dedicated admirers of Americas' finest steel guitar players.......each an early member of the Millie Annis Jerry Byrd Fan Club of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Oh well.......... I guess the older one gets, the more myths that come to light.

Eddie (the old geezer).....it is good to see you posting. Once again thanks for the tape you sent me of Ray Schacht (Carol Stuart). I truly treasure it. I have been trying to find him on the internet but so far i have failed. Hope to meet you someday.

Best wishes,

Ray most of these folks would be in their 60s to 100s by now. I haven't checked the mortality but it can't be good in that age bracket.

Well Stuart..........you've done it again. You're so logical, it sorta scares me.

Does this mean I'm likely the only 'old person' that's left from the original JBFC???

Gee's......what a revelation.

Sorry Ray that was a little harsh.

I think Bo was around 10 to 14 yrs old some time around 1950 when his father Bishop Dwight Moody took him to see Sol Hoʻopiʻi at a church. Sol died shortly after that.

I said all that to say this. My father and my grand father played lap steel back then and Sol was the only one they could go see because Jerry and the others were playing in those “dens of inequity” night clubs.

Geez Ray your talking about steel guitar players who fought in World War II.
My Grandfather fought for years but they finally drafted him.

Whoa! Confused
What has this got to do with Millie Annis and the Jerry Byrd Fan Club? Not a bit! Can't we get back to the subject? I was a member of the JBFC from the very beginning.
Confused

Got to rummaging around the Steel Guitar page on Facebook, and found a Youtube TV clip from 1964 posted by Wally Taylor of Ray playing "Swingin' on The Steel".Just superb.Ray might not necessarily be a Nashville cat,but he sure plays as "clean as country water". Very Happy Very Happy

Ray, My Father Bob Gibler Senior was an avid Jerry Byrd Fan from the start. I have about 260 recordings along with some Albums of Jerry Byrd on the Mercury label. My dad left me a stack of the Jerry Byrd Fan club magazines, the earliest ones I have are from 1966. Dad was a life long fan until his death in March of 2008. Here are a couple of those mags.

Best Wishes. Bob Gibler II
