Thanks for the link, Craig. Buddy's tone and E9 style is on a whole different plane than anything I've ever heard. I never realized it until I started slowing his solos down to learn them. He is playing a lot more notes than it sounds like! _________________ Shobud "The Professional" D-10, Stage One S-10, National "New Yorker," NV400 |

Wow, awesome thread, Craig! Thanks for those tunes. From an engineer's standpoint do you have any thoughts on how Buddy achieved that magical tone? Special pickup winding? Eq? _________________ Shobud "The Professional" D-10, Stage One S-10, National "New Yorker," NV400 |

Rick,
I don't know of anything special he did for tone, and I'm not sure he knew either. He did use our products later on, but to my ears, it's really hard to beat the tone Buddy had on those old maple Sho~Buds he played in the mid 60s. No effects, buffers or gadgets of any kind. Leon sounded great also. Often I've said the only effect Leon ever used was a pick.
Enjoy those clips Rick. You'll never hear another band with the magic the Troubadours had.
