My changer is recessed 1 1/8" from the end plate. Does that seem to be what all Carters are? Does everyone use 1 1/8" nylon tuning nuts? This one I've acquired has 3/4" nuts,,,,I think someone has changed them Out? |

That sounds about right, Sonny. My changers are set in approx the same distance. The ends of the nylons tuning nuts are flush with the opening at the end plate. Mine are original direct from Carter, your 3/4 nuts must have been replaced at some point. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

My 1999 Carter has 3/4" long nylon nuts. Their ends are approx. 3/8" recessed into the cutout. This is factory original. |

Sounds like John Fabian may have used different length nylon tuners from time to time. My D-10 is a 2006 model. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

They SHOULD be slightly recessed. Since they're rarely even with each other, if they're not recessed, some would protrude, which runs the risk of klutzification damage; to rods, nuts or fingers. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

My '01 has 1-1/8" long tuning nuts.
They haven't been a problem.
As long as you don't have a pull with a ton of slack in it.

My 1999 has 3/4" nuts. They are recessed and not even with the endplate. I have used a 1-1/8 nut at times and had no problems. They don't stick out enough to be a danger of hitting them on the case when putting the guitar in. I am thinking of changing them all to the longer ones. They are easier to see. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Stock tuning nuts on Carter D-10's are all (1 1/8") if they're more or less, someone has changed them. Even on the Quad Raise/dual Lower they're the same as they are on a Triple/Triple changer.
So I'd pretty much guess they'd be the same on all their steels. Can't say for sure, because I've never owned a single neck carter.
Hope that helps

I don't think so Don. My Carter D10 is a 1999, and it has most of the same nylon nuts that came on it from the factory, and they are 3/4". Changer is 1-1/8" from end plate. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) .
