I have a damaged reissue BL 705.
In an attempt to remove the wide base plate from the pickup, I managed to sever the wires where they enter the pickup housing. Right now, it's about 3/4ths of the way cut through the wire. (I needed a narrow mount and got this 705 at a great deal...so I took a gamble...and lost.)
Has anyone out there successfully repaired one of these? If not, any idea who might know how?
As an alternative, is there anyone out there who might want to buy a practically new pickup for the purpose of dissecting it to see how it's made?
Thanks,
Don

Yeah, but it was a black surround version. Not sure if thats the one you're referring to?
Me and my brother had to rewire mine, and I was having earthing problems, and cut of the back plate-(unnecessarily, as it turned out)in order to check the wiring, and cut straight through the cable in the process.
Cue lots of swearing, and then rewire job.
Once we gob the backplate off with a stanly knife, we pushed the coil pack up from the bottom to release it from the surround, then used a multi-craft tool to cut an access to the coil ends. I had some 4 core P/u cable that I bought for the job, and we soldered that to the coil ends, and then reassembled.
It's working purfectly to this day, and you can hear the sound on my youtube channel, if you need to. |

Here are some pictures of the damaged BL 705. A fellow Forum member wanted to see some pictures, so here they are.
Price: $25 (how does that sound?)

Thanks to all who commented on the CHAIR! I was looking for something quick to take a picture of the pickup and that's the first thing that came to mind...works good though and got the job done!
Also, I looked a the wires tonight and it looks like the green wire is intact. The other ones appear to be severed. During this inspection, I tried to be as gentle as possible in order to minimize and prevent further damage.
Now, I'm going to go sit in my easy chair...but not the one in the picture. |
