And note the seller's terrible FB score - based on his other items, I'd say this is a classic case of someone who just doesn't know what he has, and thinks it's worth way more than it is. I hope no one buys it at that price.
This thread seems related to a discussion on the "holy grail" thread today about driving the market up.

Just so we're clear here, that's a 6139, not a Maverick. This is the pro-predecessor to the Pro-1, and it comes with a 'Bud pedal. Not horribly clean, but it looks intact. Pointing this out as gross overpricing seems to me to be off the mark.
Although I will admit I wouldn't pay that for it.

| Not such a bad price considering he started the listing awhile ago at $1400. He's relisted it at this price ($1000) several times, now, so I don't think he's going any lower. I can't blame him. It's much more guitar than the Mavericks that are currently listed for about the same money. |

I admit I did think it was a Maverick; however, it still seems steep considering you can get any of several 3x4 guitars routinely here for the same or almost the same money. I admit to being no Sho-Bud expert.

Yup. It's set up Day style. The first pedal appears to be 1/2 the C pedal, only raising string 4.

This is no Maverick - as stated above, it's a 6139 with rack-and-barrel. It also has a switch for one of those great-sounding coil-tapped Sho Bud pickups. If that pickup and tapped wiring all work, it's a great sound.
I notice holes in the undercarriage that indicate to me that somebody has, at some time in the past, likely removed some levers. I had a 6139 exactly like this with 3+3, and it was one of the best-sounding steels I've ever played. My ONLY issue with that guitar is that I found it too small for my long legs and 6'4" frame - I just can't deal with small-frame single 10 steels.
On the price - well, of course 3+1 is a limitation. Obviously it would be better if it had levers where those holes are. If in fact the pictured Sho Bud volume pedal is included and in good shape, that's worth at least $100. Shipping seems out-of-line to me. But it strikes me that it probably wouldn't be that hard to find additional R&B lever kits - my sense is that a lot of R&B guitars have been changed over.
To me, the bottom line is this: I personally am very skeptical of pedal steels on ebay. To me, they're a pig-in-a-poke, and I don't trust ebay as a venue to buy a pedal steel. YMMV. But if this listing was on this forum and one could really get into the details and talk about everything and negotiate with a known forum seller, I wouldn't think that this type of listing or price is insane. |

The problem as I see it, is that it has just 1 knee lever. Whoever buys it is going to have to add at least 2, thereby jacking up the total cost to more than the price of a new Stage One, with its 4 knee levers. It may be a good guitar, but it's a bad deal.
I have had good luck with E-bay. I found my 2nd Millennium there*, and sold both my former Classics there after not getting any bites on either one when they were listed here on the forum.
*The Millennium was listed on E-bay by a retailer called the Used Instrument Warehouse. I bought it from them, not the previous owner.

Daves right, You've got to be careful on Ebay. An example Right now is that white BMI 12 string 3and4,for about $2295.00. It's got about 270 pictures of it. They says it's serial no. 0064, But if you look at the second serial no. you can see 1164. That would make it about 1987 Based on the three BMI'S I've had. I also believe that in the 70's and early 80's don honeycombed the Changer end plate.(separate holes for each adjuster). That ones completely milled out. Five pos. George L pickup. Looks exactly like the one I just bought. Just saying, be careful. I could be wrong. Hate to see someone pay to much. Tennessee Lee

From my watching what's been selling in S-10s for the last three years, I think clean, stock 6139s have been going for $1K for quite a while now. In fact, I've made offers of that much on two here in town and were turned down by the owners who subsequently sold them elsewhere for more. 6139s with 4 knees have sold for 1650 to 1750 for the past two years at least.
I'll bet that a 6139 with 3/4 will sell for over 2 grand in 3 or 4 years.
Just sayin... YMMV.

know anything about this particular model. Might

Go back, it's a trap. Worth whatever it's worth to you. Generally will sell for about half of that price. John Coop categorically refused to have anything to do with them. |

Herb is correct... Buds that are clean and have had extra levers and pedals are a small fortune.. I would give this guy very close to $1000 as it sits if it was local.. His shipping price is a deal breaker.. He will get $1000 eventually...
If I could find a clean 6139 that has at least 4 knees and stayed in tune, I would give $1300 any day... bob

I got the guitar, Showbud pedal, and Christmas Tree amp all from the same place at the same time.. |

It looks close to a Shobud, but, as I said, I've never seen one that looks quite like that. It's not a Shobud "gumby" key head, although it's quite similar. The endplates appear to be bent sheet metal, not alum castings. The fretboard is not Shobud. I'm not saying that it's not a cool/good guitar,,,,, it just doesn't look like any Shobud I've ever seen!
