My stroboplus HD has stopped taking charge through the USB port. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've tried different USB power plugs and cables. It's pretty annoying, as to send it back to the US from Australia to repair is just not worth it, and it's not even a year old.

The only similar thing I've noticed on mine is the USB port on the HD requires a longer than normal snout on the mating power plug to seat properly.

I was using the cable that shipped with it no problems, and now it's just stopped taking charge.

Does it still communicate through the USB port to a PC? I would call Peterson as they have always offered great service and it could be the quickest way to get an answer and get it fixed cheap.

Have you tried a different USB port? Or try a smart phone USB port type charger.

Try a different cable? Cables do go bad, although not very often.

Contact Sue at Peterson, you will not get any better service than from this young lady. You may find that they have a company doing service/repair near to you.I know that for us UK/Euro players there is a service centre in Germany, which Sue directed me to when I fried my Stroboflip.

Another thing to check out is the rechargeable battery. This is likely to be a 'smart charger' chip which monitors the battery current for a correct charge cycle. If the battery is faulty it may stop pulling current from the battery charger or PC (A PC only gives 100mA but can give 500mA by negotiation)

It may be ok to temporarily remove the battery to see if the unit is working, just in case a bad battery is collapsing the charger circuit.

Some equipment do not like a battery to be removed and run on charger only, but I personally would try it for a short time on an otherwise faulty unit.

The battery is likely to need replaced every 2 - 5 years anyhow.
