Topic: steel prices....all over the place |

i find it interesting that people will pay practically as much for a single 10string as they will for a double neck.
i see single and double carters for around $2000..
single emmons and zum for $3000+
doubles for $3500
single fessenden, mci, bmi,dekley, msa...$1200 on up
but people aren't buying good double p/p's even for $2600.
or even old d10 sho-buds for $1500
i guess double necks are dead to the new modern player.
it's kind of sad, as the d10 was so inspiring to many of us for it's range of cool sounds.
why are certain brands worth twice as much when mechanics, tone and design are so similar? |

then throw new s10 lightweight entry level guitars into the mix at around $2000...??
it just seems that there is no common reference point anymore. |

I haven't been paying attention. Has there ever been a "reference" point?
I do have to start paying attention soon, if I continue (hopefully) to gig.
I'm contemplating a weight loss program.

Because so and so said this brand is the best and that brand is no good.
You new guys need to research a little better.
I've seen people on this forum hype or trash a certain brand guitar, knowing full well they have never even seen such guitar.
It's a mine or my favorite player's guitar is best and the rest are junk deal.
The moral is, Don't immediately believe every thing you read or hear.
I don't claim to know everything, but I know there is a lot of stuff said on this Forum that won't hold water.
I'm done now.

I Don't know of any Pros that play BMIs, except Cowboy Eddie Long. Sarah jory plays a white Magnum pro select. I kinda stick with what I can afford. T.L.

Also some of the pros play whatever is being given out free at the time. There is one manufacturer that is giving them out to any one that will take them right now.

would be interesting to have a room full of guitars. let's take just d10 'black' mica versions of:
legrande, mullen, zum, rains, rittenberry, derby, fessenden, infinity, justice, jch, rustler, msa,
franklin,e/mci, carter, etc. no name badges allowed on them...
i see alot of similarity there. |

People aren't buying D10 Emmons PP's or D10 Shobuds because they are either too heavy, lack the ability to carry extended copedants, have poor quality components, or are just dogs to keep in tune etc ...
Most newer people wanting a good D10 will go for a more modern guitar, with great mechanics and easy changeability, and capability for expansive copedants.
And the newer guitars tend to be lighter and a little more compact as well.
The D10 will live on much longer than any of us

Steel guitar prices are like car prices. Some cars like Chevettes are price low because they are economy cars. Some cars like Cadillac Eldorados are prices high because they are luxury cars. Some used cars are considered classics and highly desirable.
So goes it for the steels.
