You're living in the wrong Portland, Billy, out here we don't vote 'em in OR out, if you show up we're glad you came to the party and you've got as much right to play as the next guy. Of course it helps that we did not decide to start a club with rules to enforce and a name to protect and all, we just all try to get together and play whenever we can... |

I'm just blown away that there exists steel guitar clubs that have enough members to have a meaningful vote. |

I hate to say it but I did get my feelings hurt, in fact I cried. I played the best I knew how and got no applause just laughs. As Forrest Gump says "that all I have to say about that." |

I'll gladly sit next to you at any gathering, Ray, and I know there are dozens more who feel the same way. |

To clarify things ; Billy RESIGNED ! I have the e-mail to prove it . The association just chose not to reinstate his membership . He was not voted out ! That's the TRUTH ! |
And then there is that !
I too find it hard to imagine that there is a club of Steel Guitar players anywhere sitting around at a table voting OUT members . _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

That was very nice of you to make such a public statement. I sincerely appreciate it.
However, I wouldn't want to cause you any friction whatsoever within the tight=knit, local 'brotherhood'.
It came as a shock to me when it happened......and I'm surprised it ever became an issue........however there are people and varying personalities. You can't endear all of the people all of the time.
Again Dave, thank you for your consideration. |

I don't know any else who posted here but I do know Ray. I sat next to Ray and Tom Palmer for four days at the Texas Steel Jamboree and never met a nicer person. Of course he bought an amp from me and that made me happy. But really if he was a friend of Tom's I knew he had to be a nice guy to begin with. Dale |

Billy, don't feel bad, I've been kicked out of more bands than you can shake a stick at. I've even been booted from a church band, more for my looks than my pickin'. They had rebuilt the stage, and my overalls didn't fit the new look. Even had a church in Mobile Al. one time, asked the evangelist I was working with, to not bring me back with him the next time he came down. It didn't hurt my feelings, I just never went back. I've since taken my Ministry back into bars, where I've always been asked to come back anytime. I'll play, pray, and be a witness for Jesus Christ in any situation I find myself. Billy, there's a place for you somewhere, just don't get discouraged and quit. |

It really is unusual to hear that a group of steelers could be anything other than kind, nurturing, and do all they could to encourage a new player. Was it really that hostile ? I've found most steelers to be an above average group as a whole, but I've been wrong before.
If that is in fact the case, don't let anyone or anything discourage you . You had the guts to get up and play in front of these folks, that says a lot in my book . Sounds to me like you should keep at it . Keep your chin up .Jeff Newman told me " don't wait until you think your good enough" he was right . |

Boy I've had some embarrassing moments at steel jams....just about every time I play at one. The folks just keep telling to get back on my pack a seat and try to get a full 8 seconds out of it..... _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Bob Hickish felt it appropriate to post photos of the initiation ceremony for joining the Texas Steel Guitar Association.
You can avoid the membership initiation ceremony by paying $25 in yearly dues to the TSGA. Most folks choose this option.

We've never kicked anyone out, to my knowledge. Nobody survived to the end of that particular ceremony. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

I understand in the Texas association you don't need to be voted out - you know when its time to go

The original poster has bowed out and the topic has degenerated into off-topic jokes. I think it's time to shut it down.
