Topic: 25 years with Mullen Guitars and counting |

After reminiscing over my playing history, it dawned on me that I've been playing a Mullen guitar for 25 years now. I would like to publicly give a big thank you to Del and Dixie Mullen for building such a fine guitar and to Mike, Shaun, and all the present builders for continuing the tradition.
I remember that my first Mullen guitar was of the highest quality. However, I personally think each one that followed has shown even finer development. Each guitar played smoothly, stayed in tune, had a great tone, and presented excellent craftsmanship.
If a mechanical issue did come up (I can count all of them on one hand), the Mullen folks were all over it.
I believe Del built his first guitar in 1969 and now the company has developed the G2 model, a superb, well engineered guitar with overall superior qualities and I am proud to be playing one.
The Mullen experience has been a great one for me over the years and I'm looking forward to many more. Many thanks to Del Mullen and company. Keep the good work going.... I'm shooting for another 25 years!
PLEASE, This post is not intended to start a race on who has the best guitar. Everyone knows there's a lot of high quality guitars today. My comments are merely a recognition of a company and its people who have contributed so much to the steel guitar world.

Thank You Guys. My Grandparents Del and Dixie poured their lives into this business and I am very proud of the accomplishments they have made. My Brother and I learned directly from Del so I hope we can honor the tradition and quality for many many years to come.

Mike Mantey, you're doing a superb job! I know Del and Dixie are proud of you, and so am I.
I played Mullen steel guitars from 1988 thru to the mid 90s. I thought they were ahead of the times and the best then. They still are, and the new G2 is the very best for my work. I'm so glad to be back on the team. |

Yes we are PROUD of Mullen Steel's. It was so good to see Del & Dixie at Arizona in January. It was the first time we had seen them since Del had been sick. Austin is fixing to be 20. He has played a Mullen for about 13 of those 20. He really loves his black Mullen G2 with the pearl United States emblem on it. Thanks Del for doing that for him. Jerry has been playing a Mullen for about 13 years also, but of course he is a little older than Austin!!!!!!!!! LOL See you all in Dallas.

Not to hijack your post Curt, but I just had to say something about your latest CD. Wow! let me say that backwards !WoW
This has taken the place of my all time favorite steel guitar music.
You are not only a superb steel guitar player, you are an artist in every sense of the word.
You have put together some of the best songs in the world and really have some neat versions with very pleasing variations.
Your version of "Making Believe" is great where you have a dialog with the keyboard player, something that reminds me of "Dueling Banjos." Pardon the reference to banjos.
You have the most beautiful version of "Unchained Melody" that I've ever heard.
One of my favorite songs as a vocal, You Comb Her Hair and also a beautiful rendition of "Farewell to Arms"
I would recommend this CD to every steel music lover. |

Curt you are just reminding me of how fast time flies. I picked my first Mullen up from Del's garage in Commerce City. I do not remember the year. The mind works like that ya know. It had to be in the early 1980's. I am sure Dixie could date it. I still have that guitar.

I started playing steel about 5 years ago .. and after graduating out of the complete beginner class .. I quickly found myself on the never-ending revolving door of buying and selling guitars .. looking for the holy grail that would make me play and sound better. I spent more time trying to tune/fix bad guitars than I did practicing. I also spent more time in the GUITARS FOR SALE forum than I should have. I don't think it was time wasted .. because I learned a lot about Steel guitar tech, and I think everyone should experience a Sho Bud and an Emmons at least once in their steel careers. As a gigging musician, I really just wanted a pro guitar that would perform trouble free.
I went through at least a half dozen instruments before I decided to save up the money for a Mullen G2. I saved all gig pay for a whole year and then made the move. Luckily I was able to find a new instrument available without the usual waiting period. Out of the box the G2 had everything I had hoped for ... beautiful looks, tone and playability. It stays in tune, can be easily customized by non-technical players, and best of all has the support of a modern day company. I have called Mullen a few times with questions, and parts orders and have always been given expert assistance with my rookie questions.
For those of you doing the guitar shuffle like I did .. do yourself a favor and save up for one of these guitars. You will not regret it.

Well I guess I will chime in here,, I have Been playing Mullen for just a smidge over 19 yrs. Not Mullen Guitar's but the same Mullen Guitar ! Yes the same one! 2 shows a day 5 and 6 days a week for 8 years ..I have NEVER! needed another guitar.. With the exception of trusting some minor adjustments and updates on the guitar with a feller that obviously didn't care or whatever the case was. I have NEVER! had an issue with this guitar.. I love it and will probably Play it for another 19 years.. Thanks Del, Dixie , Mike and Sean and the whole Mullen Family your the best..... Here is a little clip of the guitar Enjoy! I know I did!!
