I'm going to string up a flattop guitar (with a raised nut) in C6, curious which guitar people here might think better. One is a vintage Harmony Sovereign, solid spruce top with mahogany back and sides, the other is a recent vintage Epiphone Masterbilt, solid cedar top and rosewood back and sides. They are both 14 fret.
TIA,
Brad

Is that guitar you've described "BLACK" or some other color?

Whichever guitar sounds better currently without the raised nut will be the one that sounds better with the raised nut.

It can be stressful to the neck to play with a raised nut (I didn't say 'ruinous') so I would consider which one seems sturdier, if there's anything jumps out at you to give you an impression (like a heavier neck, eg).

The Epiphone has a truss rod....I don't remember if the Sovereign has one or not, but I think not....that could be a help to combat the extra stress...

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'll try the Epiphone. If I don't like it, I can always try the Sovereign afterwards. Oh, FWIW, the Sovereign does have a truss rod.
Thanks again,
Brad
