YIKES! Great book, but it sure blows MY mind! Am I the only one who had no idea so many chord variations existed? Just curious.

Received my copy yesterday. I like the idea that it gives you just about every position for just about any chord you can think of.
The scales are easy to follow an understand... though all are single note scales. I wish they had included some harmonized scales too.
Plenty to work with and a good investment. |

I have them at the shop- one of the caveats is that it does not have a key to show the tuning or the setup for the pedals and levers that it uses- not that it's really a big deal because one can figure them out bt it is an omission. |

The one reviewer on amazon noted that the book didn't show the AF pedal scale or chord positions. That would be an important omission IMO. He didn't mention if it showed F pedal only. Still, someone could get a lot of good ideas from the book.

The price is right but some of the choices for chord locations and pedals/levers make you wonder if Mr. Johnson is a steel player himself...or was it constructed by a computer?
For example, there are a maximum of four locations for each chord due to the column setup so the selections for a major chord are
no pedals showing only strings 3,4,5,6,8
AB pedals showing only strings 3,4,5,6
D lever position showing strings 1,2,5,7 WITH NO MENTION OF THE D LEVER OR STRINGS 4 and 8!!!????
and a baffling 4th choice of pedals B,C and E lever and showing only strings 1,2,3,4 meanwhile totally bypassing any AF presentation.
This is a good start but would have been a lot more useful if ALL "valid" strings at each fret were depicted (i.e. in the pedals down position no mention is made of strings 8 and 10) and additionally if the scale "degrees" were included to aid in chord construction understanding on the diagram (i.e. R,3,5,b7 etc) |
