Over the years it turns out that I have accumulated a number of high quality musical instruments. I have had each of them listed individually under our Homeowners insurance and pay an extra premium each year to cover the various perils that could befall them.
My insurance company is a bit prickly about covering the instruments if they're used to 'play for money'...which I do regularly...
Before renewing the policy this year, I thought I'd ask any of you working musicians for any information you may have about a reliable, quality casualty insurance program you have discovered for your instruments?

When I was in the Musician's Union many years ago, they offered insurance that covered everything except being stolen from an unlocked vehicle. I don't know if they still offer this type of insurance. |

Not enough musicians are aware that homeowners insurance will not pay on musical instruments for "professional" musicians, which they define as anyone who's ever received compensation for playing in any form whatsoever. If you've ever been payed or given any kind of gratuity for playing and the insurance company finds out about it, they can deny your claim, and most likely will. And the claim adjuster who makes that decision will not be your family friendly agent. Most claim adjusters earn commissions on denied claims. If you search around, a good musicians policy isn't that expensive. I've got one from Clarion that suits my needs, but there are other companies as well. Don't trust your homeowner/renter policy. |

I will second what Richard said. MusicPro is the way to go. I filed one claim in several years. Paid. No problems. Good company IMHO.

I've had several great suggestions!... thank you all for your insight...
In the process of completing application / details for Clarion... that Company looks to have the broadest coverage and reasonable conditions.
Awaiting final premium quote...
Thanks again...

Out of curiosity, I asked for a quote, too. Maybe, since I told them I was currently insured thru MusicPro and was merely checking rates, they'll beat MusicPro. We'll see... |
