A student brought this around today. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

My guess is that it's a homemade job with a pair of Supro fretboards.

hello-the STAR on headstock is very similar to logo on 50s-60s japanese STAR drum sets and nut and bridge are very similar to Guyatone lap steel that I have --and there is a a tie-up to Guyatone and Star as some rebadged Guyatones had this Star logo on pickups--hope this helps DAVID

Those aren't Supro fretboards, even though the silkscreen pattern is similar. The pickup assemblies look Japanese.

That was the first thing that caught my eye.

It was almost certainly made by Guyatone of Japan. Here's a long discussion of Guyatone steel guitars that may be helpful.

Thanks for the replies all. I was thinking Guyatone or Tiesco. The 'Star' above the inner headstock appears to be handwritten, and not some kind of inlay. It sounds really nice!
