Jim no real info on the CD. He's playing his Fender Quad on the cover and some of song titles are non pedal tunes so my guess is all non pedal. It's $10. as a download at the Asleep at the Wheel site.

No. It's not all non pedal. He does play his Fender 2000 on a couple numbers. I believe Bud's Bounce and Bubbles In My Beer....

I'm pretty sure the blue Quad was Gene Crownover's Stringmaster.

I meant the single neck Fender he uses in the Western Swing Rules video.

Leon-
That's a Fender Deluxe, basically a short scale single neck Stringmaster. Eddie's looks to me like a mid 60's example.

Eddie transcends teaching a lick.
It's the entire basic approach to the tuning in 8 minutes or less!

I love this video. To many lessons are very rigid, and teach you a specific lick or technique (which isn't a bad thing, mind you), whereas this points you in a general direction and encourages you to explore a "concept." And for me, it's not one I've explored much, so now I'm excited to get home from work and play around with it.

Thanks for the link!

What I really like was the solo on the song he plays onstage after the lesson. Beautiful!

It is a really good lesson from Eddie on how to make a lot of music with a minimal amount of choices. As he displays, but doesn't mention, it really is about the subtleties and musicality, especially in phrasing. It's hard to teach that, but that's what all the old (and new) records are for, to learn from.

Phrasing is everything, as long as it's played in tune! Laughing

I've become an internet pen pal with Robert Huston, the producer of this series, Western Swing Rules. He is a piano player, who used to live in Oklahoma, where he knew Al Stricklin, Bob Will's piano player, and took music management from Eldon Shamblin in college. He also booked the Texas Playboys for some shows up there. Good guy.

He tells me he has some additional video of Eddie Rivers and will put up another segment. He invites comments and requests for future segments.

I use to fiddle with Eddie when he still lived up here. It was like being transported back 50 years when he kicked into a song!
I didn't take up steel until he left the state Laughing

Yep that's a great live album. Tulsa and Ride are great ones too for Eddie's playing. Cappuccino Boogie has some really cool stuff going on.
