Bobby Koefer is one of my favorite members of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame (inducted: 2004). Bobby uses a different type bar and holds it differently than most steel players. He always has a smile, and his showmanship during videos is funny to me. Notice how he can play without looking at his guitar at times. Notice also, he only uses a thumb pick, no finger picks.

I talked with him about 45 minutes today, and he and his wife are doing well. We talked about his early career, how he uses his bar, and how steel guitar music has changed since he and I started playing steel. I asked his permission, and he has no objection to me making this post. Not sure about his internet access, so I told him I would mail a copy of comments made to this topic. Make your comments, and include any personal regards.

I selected the following videos, which most of you have seen, but I hope you will enjoy revisiting them:

On Sittin'on Top of the World, it's cool to see that early Fender with the boxcar pickups and Roman numeral fretboards. Thanks for that link C.E.

He has always been one of my favorites. I remember his work from Bob Wills and also from the time
he was with Peewee King.
I still frequently listen to the tracks.

Clyde and Blake, thanks for the comments. I am sure that Bobby will appreciate them also.

Hopefully, more viewers will make comments. Not sure about Bobby's internet access, so I will copy all comments and mail a copy to him.

You guy are the greatest. Bobby is truly a steel guitar legend!!

I am a big fan of Bobby's, and have been very influenced by his approach to the steel guitar.
Been listening to Pee Wee King this week in the shop. His work on the Billy Gray Dance O Rama is one of my favorites as well.
A very inventive player , and his work on the E13 tuning..... amazing.

Thanks to Dave, Todd, Robert, and Larry for the comments and information. I spoke with Bobby again over the weekend. His computer is running again, and he was able to review comments on this post. He and his wife were both very pleased with the comments and kind words. Please continue to leave comments and information.

I bought Bobby's CD which has 33 of his songs on it and he autographed it. Now that's really special to me. I am listening to it right now again as I write.
He said he still has a few left, so guys and gals get one while you can. It's a wonderful CD.
Very Happy Very Happy
