I've been playing just long enough to know I no longer like the sound of my Fender 212 R. I have the chance to buy a Hot Rod DeVille for 500.00, I know there has been some discussion on this in the past, nothing recently though, very curious what you folks think about this amp. Does anybody use it for Steel? I'm playing(learning on)a 1950 6 String National and a Remington D8

I have one. I'm not fond of it. Large, too much power, voiced for guitar.

For most non-pedal gigs I grab the Fender Blues Jr.

Moved to Electronics from Steel Without Pedals.

I would prefer the sound of the Blues Junior over the Hot Rod Deville. The Deville has to be turned up to painful levels to get the same tone you get from the Blues Junior, plus it's really heavy.

The weight...yikes!

The Blues Jr. would be considerably less expensive used then the Deville. Available new for about $525.

There are all kinds of popular mods available for the BJr. Want a Silver Face Twin tone stack? Yep, it's available.

It's a LOUD 15 watt lil' sucker. Need more power? Throw a mic in front of it!

I play my steel only with the Deville and like this amp; but I changed the preamp tubes: a 12AY7 in V1 and a 12AT7 in V3.
