| There's not enuf bandwidth for just those off the top of my head, but Byrd, David Kelii, Feet/Benny/George Rogers, Pua, Murph, Speedy, Bobby Ingano, and even some here on the forum like Jeff Au Hoy are the quick list. |

| In pictures of the swsgc I saw Bobby Black playing a 12 string non pedal. Anyone know anything about the steel &/or the tuning he was using? I wish I could have heard his playing. |

Freddie Roulette was the the first person I heard play live doing something other then country or Hawaiian music and made me go, "Hmmm... There's something to this." A few years later I heard David Lindley with Jackson Browne and that really got to me.
When I first started actually playing lap steel, it was primarily Lindley. But over the years my ears have gotten bigger and I've begun to appreciate the Hawaiian players and pre-pedal honky tonk guys. I'm playing catch up listening to the people the rest of you have mentioned.
Anyone who can play a steel with touch, taste, tone and feeling is a hero to me. Many of them hang out right here on the SGF.
I've always loved pedal steel, but had friends who are better then I'll ever be, so I never bothered to try to learn it.

None other than a great Pedal Steel And lap Steel Player Doug Beaumier up there in Northampton MA.Doug is one of the best around and he is a perfect Gentleman.If you ask Doug a question about how do you do this he is there to help you.He has helped me in playing my Pedal steel and now with my Dynalap Lap Steel.I thank Doug for all his help he is a true friend.

My short list would definitely include Bob Pauole of the Genial Hawaiians. What he did with the high bass A tuning in 1932-34 is near the pinnacle of the Tricone's recorded output. And Jim Holstein was the perfect accompanist on guitar.
