Here's a song that I've enjoyed from about the age of 13-14. A high school girlfriend introduced me to it, among other things, like Eddy Arnold and Roy Wiggins. This was a BIG HIT for Perry Como and Dean Martin in 1949.
The song is "Dreamer's Holiday" and is the initial

It was fun doing it and I think that little Ric and FENDER Pro-Junior that my good friend Tom Palmer of D2F Covers made available to me, is a perfect match.
We picked this up during the Texas Steel Guitar Show.
It's amazing how a musician can get a "sound" in his/her head and simply can't let go of it. This is a sound I've been chasing for more than sixty four years. No other guitar or amp in my collection can surpass this 'sound'.
If you're interested......give it a listen and let me know it might be improved upon.

Agreed, that is some sweet amp tone there. Ray forgive me, but If i may say so, I'd bring the high hat volume down a notch or 2, for what it's worth. As far as the steel guitar playing goes... what warts? What bloopers? There were none!

It's obvious whenever one listens to any of Ray's recordings that one is hearing the playing of one of the old-time masters of the instrument, and this recording is no exception. Very pleasant to listen to. I could listen to this music all day.  |

James: My rig is nothing more than a seven string black Bakelite with chrome plates....... It looks like hundreds of others, I assure you.

Do any of you other steel players........
have a particular fondness for those old, highly popular vocal arrangements.
I can't remember what I did just yesterday but I can remember a host of these 1940-50's pop tunes. |

one tune I loved doing was a 1946 pop tune called “some day you’ll want me to want you “ the progression seem so comfortable - like a lot of old tunes it could swing , or be mellow . |

"My Happiness" is on my "to do list", along with "Paper Moon", "Slow Boat to China", "Birth of the Blues" et al.
It's nice to find someone that's familiar the tunes that I grew up with. |

I guess we both had a thing for airplanes too. I played in a dance band aboard ship in the early fifties and we did all those old songs. I love Autumn leaves, September song and so forth..That was a great time.
My late wife used to do Killing me softly, The first time ever I saw your face. Both are great steel songs I think.I learned there are great songs beside old country,which I still love to play. Have a great day..

Alan......can you hum me a few bars of "AGAIN"?
The name is familiar but I cannot for the life of me recall any melody. Help.
Dale: That little amp of yours was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I've never found any other amp that produces "that sound" that I searched for, for a life-time. What a marvelous sound/tone. I use it exclusively! And how are you doing my friend? I've been wondering how you were doing and so has Tom Palmer.
Willis: I tho't you lived out west??? Was I wrong or have you moved? Yepp! Airplanes and music have been the core of my life. I sure miss my twin engine Cessna 310.... I've also been playing with a Hawaiian group occasionally and with the old pop tunes this time has been one of my happiest, music-wise. |

Your comment about my playing thro' "YOUR AMP" caught my attention.
One evening during the late 1950'a while I was playing at the Division Street Corral, an elderly gentleman appeared in front of the bandstand. He gazed at my g'tar intently and ultimately commented that he was sure happy that I'd taken such good care
"of HIS GUITAR".
That was a touching moment.
I hope you're doing well. Sorry to learn of your hospitalization. You wouldn't trade being here in Portland would you? It's been 19 degrees plus or minus with about one foot of wind blown SNOW. WHEW! |
