I would like to say that Chuck Lettes and the SWSGA did a great job of organizing the event at the show.
I enjoyed listening to all of the different players and they were all excellent !! It is always so refreshing to go in there and hear the pure sounds of the steel without volumes of sound, and I sat on the first row ! I would list the names, but there are a couple that I dont recall and I wouldnt want to offend anyone by leaving off their name, so just suffice to say they were all excellent ! |

Larry, if there was an award for the biggest smile in that room it would go to you! You looked like a wide eyed kid in there every time I popped in for a peek.
To say you looked happy would be an understatement.
"Enthralled" would be more like it! |

Darrel, haha, you are funny, but yep it did my heart alot of good. It was really nice meeting you this year after our talks on the phone over the year...maybe in the spring we can meet up again. I must admit I am like a kid at Christmas every day, and get up at 5 and go to my lap steel and start playing. Fun instrument, and this is after 50 years of playing guitar and pedal steel and (gulp) 5 string banjo. haha |

That must be why we get along Larry ....we're both banjoists (banjo + terrorists).
It's a sad affliction. Got hooked when I was 15. |

I second what Larry said about the non-pedal room the only problem was wanting to be in two places at the same time! ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

Although I was able to catch only about half of the non-pedalers, the performances I heard were fantastic. I wasn't as close as Larry was (maybe 3rd or 4th row) but each player projected a sound that made it feel like a house concert. Imagine having Bobby Black play in your living room. Great backup musicians, too. Thanks to Chuck for organizing; I think SWSGA should consider expanding this format next year. |

What a great time in Phoenix. I also loved being at the Non-pedal Session. So many great players and different styles, plus the fine backup musicians were so perfect for all of the different styles of music. I love the intimate atmosphere and the fellowship. Let's do it again next year.
