Hi Folks,
I'm a guitarist (finger picker) who just got a Sho-Bud and is new to PSG and I'm wondering about amps.
I have a few amps and the most likely candidates for PSG would probably be a 1st edition Peavey Bandit 65. I also have a JC-120 head and I'm wondering if it is worth building a combo cabnet that would house the head and say a 15" speaker?
The other route would be to sell em both and just get a Peavey 112 or maybe a Cube 80GX. (I'm sure the 80GX is lighter and has a few more options than the JC-120.)
Although I'm not in a great hurry I'm still thinking about getting "my ducks in a row" and I'd appreciate any advice.
Thanks very much in advance. |

I thought the JC 120 was a stereo amp. there's nothing wrong with that amp, it's clean. It might be hard to get a pleasing tone; fixable with an EQ box. I rented one once while my session 500 was in the shop, I never could get the mids quite how I wanted. It'll be better than the Bandit. But you can't run it into one speaker: it's actually 2 60 watt channels, unless I'm wrong. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the JC-120 is stereo but if I'm not mistaken it can be run mono, I'll take a look see. |

The Roland JC120 is a fine amp for pedal steel, yes the speakers are powered independently but I believe only the internal chorus effect is actually reproduced in "stereo" - certainly the mono guitar input powers both speakers equally. I've not seen one as a stanalone head though... |

Yes they made a stand alone JC-120 head in the 80's.
There are left and right speaker outs so I guess if you only plugged in one speaker the output would be 60 watts. |

That 'Bandit 65' is a diamond in the rough! (just need to replace that stock Sheffield speaker with a BW, Weber, or something similar.)I use one loaded with a BW 1201-8 for gigs in clubs that allow smoking to rescue my expensive amps from exposure and it performs very well..Would be pleased to share my amp settings, just e-mail or P.M. me if interested. |
