Fiddlin Frenchie Burke will headline the Heart of Texas Roadshow on Saturday, January 25th at the Texas Theater in Seguin. Other special guests will include Heart of Texas Recording Artists Amber Digby, Justin Trevino and Dottsy. Frenchie Burke was born in the small Louisiana town of Kaplan, not for from Lafayette. His grandfather taught him to play the fiddle and he began to play
with small bands throughout Louisiana. He began to work the road and attract attention of some well know entertainers.
Frenchie began working for Ray Price, Little Jimmy Dickens and Johnny Bush touring throughout the United States and Canada. It was while working with Johnny Bush that Frenchie cut his first record, “Warm With Love In Here.â€
In 1974, he received extensive airplay with is lively version of the old Cajun waltz “Big Mamou.†It quickly became the number one requested song on several Texas radio stations including KIKK in Houston, KKYX in San Antonio and WBAP in Ft. Worth. 20th Century Records then released it to the nation and it became a number one record across the nation. Other chart hits followed including “The Fiddlin of Jacques Pierre Bordeaux,†“Frenchie’s Cotton Eyed Joe†and “Let’s Get Drunk and Be Somebody.â€
Frenchie was voted the Cashbox Instrumentalist of the Year in 1981 and along with his band were given the Best New Duo of 1975 while his album “Fiddlin Frenchie Burke†was ranked the number four album in 1975. His latest album is on Startex Records called “Dance Album.â€
Raised in Nashville, Tennessee, the capital of Country Music, Amber Digby is one of the most refreshing country singers in the first decade of the new century. She recorded her first album "Music from the Honky Tonks" in 2002. It received much attention from all over the world, selling worldwide and creating an overwhelming base of fans.
The popularity of her first album resulted in several tours abroad: she performed at the Furuvik Country Festival in Sweden, toured Australia, playing in Melbourne, Sydney, New South Wales and Brisbane. After returning to the US, she performed in Tulsa, Nashville and Forth Worth.
In summer of 2006, Amber signed with Heart of Texas Records (based in Brady, TX) and released her second CD, "Here Come the Teardrops", sending her back for another European tour, to Sweden, Norway and France.
By the readers of the Scandinavian magazine, “Kounty Korallâ€, she was recently voted “Female Artist of The Yearâ€, along with her project, “Here Come The Teardropsâ€, being voted “International Album Of The Yearâ€. Amber was also nominated for “Pure Country Female Vocalist†in 2006 by the Academy of Western Artists and won the award in 2008.
In 2009, Heart of Texas Records released “Another Way To Live†and it was followed with a duet project with Justin Trevino titled “Keeping Up Appearances.â€
In 2010, Digby made her first appearance on the Grand OIe Opry. Segment host Ronnie Milsap praised Digby as being one of the finest female traditional artists in Country Music.
Digby and her band Midnight Flyer recorded their first live album and DVD in 2011. “Live At Swiss Alp†was named one of the best live projects by Country Music People magazine in London, England. Her latest album, “The World Your Living In†was released in January of 2013.
Justin Trevino has performed professional since his teenage years. He began his career following in the footsteps of some of his honky tonk heroes including Johnny Bush and Darrell McCall. In later years, he would become the bass player and front man for both of those legendary acts. Trevino has released some very successful projects to date including “Too Many Heartaches†“Take One As Needed For Pain†“Before You Say Amen†“More Loud Music And Strong Wine†and his current album “Two Of The Usual.†He has recently taped an appearance on Larry’s Country Diner on RFD TV as well as being featured on Country Family Reunion.
Dottsy Brodt was born in Seguin, Texas. Her musical career began with the aid of a Texas theme park owner who had previously discovered Johnny Rodriguez. James T. “Happy†Shahan owned “Alamo Village†a tourist attraction that featured Wild West shows and concerts. Like Rodriguez, Shahan hired the former Junior Miss Pageant winner to sing at his shows. Dottsy was soon signed by RCA Records becoming the first country act to be officially known by just one name. Her first single, a song co-written by Jessi Colter, “Storms Never Last†landed at #17 in August 1975.
Dottsy’s second single “I’ll Be Your San Antone Rose†climbed to #12 in early 1976. Three singles later her biggest hit “(After Sweet Memories) Play Born To Lose Again†went to #10 in August 1977. In early 1979 “Tryin’ To Get To You†featuring Waylon Jennings vocal peaked at #12. Dottsy released three more singles for Tanglewood label in 1981. She now records for Heart of Texas Records and her current project is titled “Meet Me In Texas.â€
