So I was wondering are there any recordings for the rest of the songs/lessons that are in the book? I'm going through the book trying to learn songs like Crazy Arms and Londonderry Air Version 1 and a recording would be helpful.

Was there ever a bootleg of the rest of the songs that couldn't fit on the album released?

Does anyone have any pointers on how they learned the songs or what they referenced to get the songs right.

Also, for Crazy Arms it said similar to the Buddy Emmons version. I couldn't find that song available anywhere so any pointers would be helpful.

Many thanks and god bless!

I went to the Oak Publishing website hoping to find MP3's of the record that came with the book (MelBay does that with Scotties Anthology) but no such luck, they don't even sell the book anymore Sad

EDIT -

Wow, you never know what you will find when you look around right here at home!

Very Happy

Thanks, Jon. The book these days comes with the CD which I have. The problem is there is a lot of songs they teach in the book that weren't included on the album.

My question is are these available now or is it possible to find them? For instance the song Crazy Arms in the book isn't on the CD, would love to hear it if it exists just so I can get that tune right.

The book originally came with a "soundsheet," a six inch (or so) square of plastic with grooves for playing on a record player. There weren't many tracks, since there wasn't much room before the needle got to the "void zone" that triggered the tonearm return. Only Bill Keith or perhaps Winnie's friends or family would know if there were more tracks that never made the cut.

Now there's a task for the experienced/pro steelers on the Forum (unless there's some kind of copyright infringement?) How about 'note for note' versions of those tunes not covered on the accompanying CD? Anyone weighing in??

I was cruising thro' eBay last evening and they had five or six of those books; one or more, had the CD's included with them.

They seemed to fall into the $20-$29.00 range.

This is not to be any kind of competition to whatever it is that the SGF has for sale. Some out of print items are nearly impossible to get one's hands on unless it's thro' an estate sale.

Just trying to help you out.

Ray, the problem is that the CD only has a handful of tracks. Because the CD was a reissue of a disc with only a ten minute capacity, if that. Someone would have to record more.

I am a beginner working through that book/CD as well and would love note for note audio for these songs. Great idea!

Here's a list of the songs not on the album/cd:

Silent Night

Great Speckled Bird (Beginner Tablature version)

Crazy Arms

Greensleeves* (the book says it is similar to the Buddy

Emmons version - does any one have this?)

When You And I Were Young, Maggie

Red River Valley (Advanced Tablature Version)

Londonderry Air (version 3 advanced Tablature)

------------

I have to add as a beginner if I didn't have it, I would be completely lost. I work out of this thing every night for at least a half hour. I've got Red River Valley, Streets of Laredo, Silent Night down. I practice the pick blocking exercises all the time and I'm close to having those down at a speed much slower than the recordings. I even value the photos, the lay out, the short sections about practice, the recordings and so on. Tl;dr this book is a treasure to the pedal steel community.

If I can find a copy of the book, I might try to video them. Howard, if you have the book, can I borrow it?

Sounds like a great offer, Lane. I'm sure there are many players who will really benefit if this comes to fruition.
