I'm happy to report that my 2 concerts last week were a huge success. These were both held in classical music venues, for the classical music community. Th8s is a lot different than playing a classical selection at a steel guitar show. Most of the people in both audiences had never seen or heard a pedal steel guitar before.

They loved it.

Many of the people in the audiences were musicians themselves. This included people from the L.A. and Burbank Philharmonic orchestras, as well as other Southern California orchestras. These are people who are far more accomplished in their fields than I am, and some of them were skeptical about both me and the steel. ("Let's see if this guy can really deliver,
" etc.)

I admit I was pretty nervous about playing in front of them.

So I'm pretty stoked that I've been getting all sorts of positive feedback, including praise from these musicians who are so highly accomplished thermselv4s. I have already been asked to put on more concerts.

Onward and upward. Very Happy

As I age, the approval of my musical peers means a lot more to me than it did when I was 20. Good for you. Much respect.

Thanks guys.

I've said more than once that my goal is not to introduce classical music to people who play and/or love the steel guitar, but to introduce the steel guitar to people who play and/or love classical music.

I'm hoping this is some sort of beginning.

Mike,

Congratulations On Your Successful Concert.

At Least The Classical People Were Only Skeptical About You & Your Steel Guitar.

Seems I Believe When Zane King Brought His Steel Guitar To A Church, He Was Met By Hostility. "How Dare You Bring That Honky-Tonk Instrument Into Our Church". He Had To Remind Them That Pianos Were Used In Honky-Tonks Before Steel Guitars. Laughing

I've experienced a little of that too. I don't dwell on it.

Hostile people are losers.

Congrats Mike, well done. It seems I have also heard some stories about hostility toward PSGs in church, especially the 'buds with the card 'symbols' on the front. It's ok, their loss in my opinion. Yeah, I agree, pianos were in honky tonks long before the PSG was ever thought of.

Congratulations Mike! Had the pleasure of hearing you play at the Norwalk Ct. Show a few years back, a nice addition to the program and thoroughly enjoyable...FWIW: Pianos were also the featured instrument in bordellos not that many years ago. That is where W.C. Handy had his start.
