Hi all-

I have a Fulawka S10 that I got a few years back. When I got it, it was set up with a wound .022 for the 6th string. Eddie told me that's what I should use, so I have, and I've never given it much thought until now. It seems like nobody else uses a wound string there. So my question is: do you Fulawka players use a wound .022 6th string? Is that common to Fulawka guitars or just mine?

Thanks for the info
Dave

That's always been Eddie's preference. You don't have to use one - in that respect it's just like any other guitar. The travel needed is different for the wound strings than for the plain ones, so it might need to be adjusted (that's also the case with other guitars).

It has nothing to do with Fulawka guitars. It's personal preference.

I use .022p on my Fulawka. Sounds best to me and just feels right.

How is Eddie, by the way? Is he still building Fulawkas, I hope?

FWIW I use a .022w on my Sho~Bud 6th. It makes the 6th and 3rd string raises track better than using a plain 6th. These aren't independently adjustable on the Bud.

Yes, Ed is still building Fulawka Steels. In fact I took delivery of a new S10 last September and it is certainly living up to its reputation. Love it. He had a few more on the go too including a beautiful green D10. Ed seems to be in good health but as mentioned his knees are giving him trouble. We are about 2 hours from his home so likely will be going up sometime this winter for a visit. He can give the guitar a look over and we can replenish our spices. I'll post a picture when I find out how to do it.
Bruce.

This is my thinking, too. Personally, I use and prefer the .024w as it sounds fuller and less "boingy". Having one major triad with plain strings and one with all wound strings gives me two distinct "voices". Cool
