After continuing to read references to the Byrd's Sweetheart album in the SGF, I couldn't help trying my hand at this, one of my favorite SG solos (by Jaydee Maness?). What I especially like is the exuberance of all of his work on this song--either an incongruity, or an effective antidote to the song's sentimentality. The solo's melody seems to be an invention of the guitarist's, divorced entirely from the song except for the chord progression. Just perfect! What a shame that a beautiful--and entirely different--version that appeared on the album got bleached out in the mixing.

Clarke Castelle, CT

P. S. I believe that the pick-up as tabbed is acceptable, but not exactly as Maness played it (well, nothing could ever sound exactly as he played it!).

Nice job, Clarke. I've never heard this version tabbed out and it is spot on. Thank you.
Here is a link from 2005 that Steve Hitsman contributed on intro and fills to this song as it was done on the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" album

Thank you, Steve. I'm glad you felt the tab was accurate. And the fills, intros, you sent will be very helpful. I've been picking away at these, and others on this album, for years, always learning something new and interesting.

Clarke, that is one of my favorite albums of all time and I love many types of music. Again, thanks for the tab, which I will practice later today. steve t

Can you believe it?: I was the only student in my dorm who wasn't disappointed with this album when it first came out (I was a freshman in college). Let me know how you manage with the second to last measure (the sliding triplets on beats 3 and 4). I like to imagine that Maness just did this off the top of his head; I've been practicing for years and can't quite do it, even trying fourth string lower instead of second string.
