Hi Terry,

I have had carpal tunnel surgery three times on my right hand over the past 20 years. Well, now I need it done to my left hand putting it off for a few months.

You do need to have this done by a really good surgeon. The last time I had it operated on the doctor was a hand surgeon, who specilized in this and hand/wrist surgeries. The reason that I had it done the third time I fell on ice and broke my right wrist 4 years ago this month. Then I had to have a metal plate put in my wrist. At that time I had the specialist on hand surgeries redue the carpal for the third time. Glad I did it, because he was great and I have no problems with it.

If you do not have he surgery you can have permanent damage in time. So, I highly recommend it, but only by a reputible surgeon. Next, I laid and watched it done the second time, not for the squimish, but I did it. He thought I was nutts. Didn't bother me, but I just wish that particular doctor would have done it right that time. It was in his clinic and I was trying to save a buck. I don't recommend that for you.

Be sure you get the right doctor and please keep us informed.

GOD bless you,
Best and Cheers,

Terry Wood

P.S.

You can figure being out of playing and work for a few weeks. Be sure you do what they tell about not using it to soon. I blew that the first time.

Terry. Thanks so much! I have a veteran surgeon who's had so many with good results, so I'm hopeful! I of course want to get back playing so I will be careful in the advise I get from him about getting active again.....I'm scheduled for one wrist this month and the other next.

I had it a few years ago and was playing in 2 days but, I got mine fixed before it got real bad and I think that's why I was able to do that plus I had a very small incision. Hope it goes well for you.

Terry, I've had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands about five months apart and didn't miss one single night of playing. Don't try to lift anything heavier than the bar though. Fred

Always turn your headlights on for safety when you enter the Carpel Tunnel. I have arthritis and a touch of Carpel Tunnel and so far I've been able to manage it with anti-inflamitory meds. I dread the day when/if I need surgery.

Terry,
I had my left hand done. Was probably playing within a week or two. It took about 6 months to pick up heavy objects, and about a year to fully recover.

All that being said, it was well worth doing. I would wake up at night with my hand asleep, and it was getting hard to hold the bar for more than 30min of practice time.

Do find someone good to do the job!

Good luck with it.

Mack

Just got my right hand done today. Had the left done a month ago and the surgeon told me today that I had mine done in the early stages so I should a have great results. My left hand is great and so glad I didn't put it off ant longer. I was very cautious last month, but was easily playing in a week!
