I thought I would share this project because its definitely a one of a kind Emmons. I acquired this guitar as a trade in for an Emmons D-10 LeGrande I sold for a friend on consignment. I think this guitar was probably built around 1968, because of the style of bell cranks, apron/pedal rack decals, pedals and pedal spacing, etc. The folks at the Emmons factory have no record of the serial number 1104 WS though, so it may be hard to really pin down for sure. It started out life as a "semi-student model" with typical shorty changer and key head and wood pedal rack, four pedals and no levers. It also had a raised maple neck and black and white fret board. However, the cabinet is a "pro model style" with standard end plates.
Since I already had the proper parts, I decided to turn it into more of a pro model guitar for a local customer that decided to buy it from me. The only problem I ran into was that the cut out in the cabinet for the tone control circuit was positioned a little further to the right than normal. this required a clearance notch in the wood neck insert by the tail piece. I had my friend, Bob Littleton notch and refinish the neck for me.

Thanks for the kind words. The new owner is Rick Pedrosa. He's coming over to play it on New Years Day because he has to work tomorrow and I have a gig tomorrow night in Salem.
It sounds like a million bucks, so I think he'll be a very happy man! Heck, I'd be proud to own it myself.

Tommy, I called it a shorty because the fingers for most of the student models are even shorter than a standard C6 changer (which is used on most all of the pro S-10 guitars). It incorporated shorter, bolt-on style pillars rather than a cut-tail style and they just mount directly on the cabinet top (rather than a bolt-on style neck tailpiece I used here).
The dowel pins on most of the student pedals are actually about 3/8" closer to the axle fulcrum than the normal pedals, in order to compensate for the shorter changer fingers. The roller nut slots on the key head are also machined lower to compensate for the strings being lower than normal. The parts I acquired and then used on this project were most likely the result of a D-10 to ST-10 (AKA an SD-10 or loafer) conversion.
Initially, I was going to make the neck insert black but I noticed the rather unusual inlay had a black pin stripe above and below. I realized those would get washed out, or would disappear if it were black, so I asked Bob to try to come up with a brown color that would complement the rosewood mica.
Rick is supposed to stop by in a couple of hours to test drive it, so I'm anxious to see how he likes it....

| Nice one . It looked like a cross between a BlackRock and a pro model to me . The difference being the BlackRock had the tone/volume knobs like the student while the Pro had the Tone /tone cut switch . |

Update: Rick Pedrosa, the new owner, stopped by yesterday and seemed very pleased with the guitar. We packed it up and he took it home with him (with a big smile on his face)!
