Working on my 1955 D8. Had the pickup plate off the inside neck to clean the pots. Everything appears to be original. No signs of additional soldering, etc.
The bridge pickup measures 7.2K ohms and the neck 7.5K. A bit lower than the 8.6K of the Lollar replacements and 8.87K of the Duncans, but in the ballpark. Wonder if those values are typical of the originals?
The tone capacitor is an old paper unit which I'm going to replace. The factory install is a .02 while all the wiring diagrams I've come across show a .05. Right now I'm leaning towards sticking with the .02, assuming that the factory had a reason for using that value in the first place, but am interested in your opinions.
The pots are the standard 1M audio taper (volume) and 250K tone and balance. |
