Theirs A You Tube video,(Live performance) of
Carl Smith singing, I overlooked an orchid. The
Steel Player's playing a red S-10 Sho-Bud. Does
anyone know who the steel player is? He's smooth as glass.

On the original Columbia record of that tune, the steel player was none other than the world famous Billy Robinson. |

Just watched the video and I think this is when Fred played for Waylon. Sure looks like Waylon's guitar amps on each side of the drummer.

I think Waylon used two Fender Super Six's most of the time. They are basically a Twin with 6 10" speakers. Someone else may have to chime in here that knows for sure.

| Waylon had custom built cabinets with 8 10 in each and a built in Twin Reverb to drive them. A friend of mine here in town, Dallas Moore, owns one of them. Heavier thean heck, but they sound GREAT!!! |

I first heard these in the early 50's via the "Phillip Morris Country Music Show" which was beamed short wave to the guys in Korea. In Australia we were thus able to get it on Radio. My brother and I erected this massive aerial for our old 6 volt (car battery - not very portable) tube wireless to get it. My first country influences apart from wind up 78's.
Carl Smith plus the band - Sammy Pruitt and I think maybe Johnny Seibert on steel. Help me out you guys with better memories than mine!
The clips mentioned sure pay tribute to the cryin' steel used way back then - even Curly. Fred Newell always plays real pretty.
