Has anyone tried the new Peavey Vyper amps with steel guitar. The amp can handle guitar, bass, and acoustic instruments. I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on them. Would be a great amp if you could switch from steel to dobro without another amp.

I bought the Viper 3 and it is impressive...mine has the 100 watts...has many choices, resonator, which I guess works for dobro...I play my steel through it..it is light but sounds good....only downfall, you need that special pedal to switch sounds....you can switch without the pedal just not while your playing without taking your hands off the instrument and picking the choice you need next...with mine you can cut the power back (don't know where you would use that)...but, hope I shed some light on it..for the price I am happy with it....

Dennis,
There is a Vyper 212 100W on craigslist local for $200, been thinking about looking at it. From what I can see,it's about the same as the V3, without the display, your thoughts.

I bought me one for Christmas. I will give all of you a report on it. My steel playing friend uses a 75 watt one, and he loves it.

I have been pushing this amp for two days now and it kicks butt. I have been looking for an amp for a long time that can handle steel, dobro, and lap steel. I have found it. This amp is as clean as any amp I have found. It can handle e9th and c6th with no problems. It has all the effects built in. I am still working on getting all of the settings like I want, and learning to use the pedal, but so far I am impressed. I will be selling my Nashville 112, and my Fishman Loud Box acoustic amp. You have to try this thing out. For a smaller venue it is great, and you could use it in a larger place if you mike it. The amp can handle guitar, bass, and acoustic. It is 100 watts of power. Peavey has done it again.
