I've read about a trick to get more gain from Fender amps (Deluxe Reverb and up) by turning off the tremolo. I assume this is a mod, unrelated to the regular footswitch. Does anyone have a description or diagram of this mod. (usually done with a pull-out pot)?

I did this to a silverface Deluxe by replacing the intensity pot with a push/pull pot (50K-A if I remember correctly). It gave the amp a significant volume increase but I did not like the sound it imparted, kinda lost some fidelity, sounded mushy. I returned it to stock shortly thereafter.

Seems to me the only real way to do it is to CUT the wire to the "intensity" pot. One outer lug is grounded. Cut the wire to the other outer pot lug. It's easy to restore if you want. Some have installed a 50k pot with a switch on it, so you can break that connection at will. If the wire is connected like stock, that pot will always present to the signal a 50k load to ground no matter how the Trem is set or if turned "off" with the stock switching method. Snipping that wire will give gain and headroom and clarity and a gain boost. It may change the sound a bit, for better or for worse is up to you to decide.

Brad and Steve. Thanks for the info. Does it make that channel sound like the non-vibrato channel (Normal) channel?

No because the channel with effects has an extra gain stage

Ok, thanks Tim. I might give it a try. Do the mod in a reversable way.
