See a psychiatrist? You'd have to be crazy to do that.

I'm posting up a link to an interview from some years back - a guitarist who'd been playing on loud stages, who eventually developed tinnitus to the point it destroyed his ability to play or even enjoy listening to music, and is quite candid about heading towards suicide as a result -
Quote:
But tinnitus is a noise in the head which is there in the first place, which is quite an amazing revelation. It’s just that I’m noticing it, because I’ve lost some of my high-end listening ability. So sound outside my head is not so audible, and the brain notices what’s going on inside the head. It’s nasty for the first - well, you become traumatised, if you’re one of the intolerant types, like I am. To those people for whom sound makes no difference, it doesn’t appear to be a problem. Whereas for me - I was suicidal at one time.

You have probably heard of Jeff Beck? This interview was from 1999, scroll almost to the end and he was discussing how he's modifying his attentional perceptions with some white noise generators, and top-notch psychiatric help. Seemed to work out pretty good. Smile

I don't thinks it's exactly accidental that a lot of the leading doctors in that field are doing the advanced therapy for it in London. They have a ready-made source of afflicted rock star patients there, many of whom also happen to be millionaire & multi-millionaire rock star rich. Nobody ever said doctors were dumb! Smile
