What is the advantage and dis-advantages of different ohm values of pickups?

Lower ohm (fewer turns) indicates lower output level, and less coloring.

Lower impedance (ohms) pickups capture less noise... so they don't need to be humbuckers, which can kill high-frequency response. The Rickenbacher horseshoe pickup is about 2kohms... and dead quiet. Same for the Aiello focused-magnet ones... very low impedance, high output, low noise.

Ray,
Practically speaking if the only difference between pickups is the ohms a 17.5 K pickup will be a little brighter sounding than an 18.5K pickup.

Most pedalsteel guitar pickups are pretty much the same in terms of basic construction and function.
