I just have to sing the laurels of Joe Goldmark's great pedal steel work and recordings. Joe is so "listenable" and I find I can't put his cd's away. If you can, listen to his rendition of Brian Wilson's "Bells Of Madness" just for starters. I have been a fan of Joe's long before I began playing the pedal steel. I even went to Portland to a club around 1980, where Joe was supposedly going to be playing that night. Sadly, he wasn't there, but I did manage to set the alarm off when I exited out a back door of the club! Anyway, Joe deserves a ton of respect for all the great recordings he has churned out over the years, and I'm proud to say I have most everything he has ever done. My two cents! |

Hi Ray,
You'd most likely find him at his record/cd store in San Francisco. Check on youtube you'll find some live clips of him with his band. I had really hoped to see him way back then, but guess I'll be driving to SF instead.

Joe is a GREAT player and nice guy. I especially love his playing in the Campilongo 10 Gallon hats disks..
Instrumental, non-traditional music drenched with Joes Steel.... wish I had a band like that! |

All of Joe's CD are great. Every one of them is a winner.
Joe is a true stylist with a unique musical vision all his own. If you haven't heard any of his work, you owe it to yourself to get one or more of his CDS. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

I find Joe's playing to be very inspiring. He is able to play in genres not typical for psg, without disguising the instrument. I often listen to Joe when I'm feeling in a musical rut. _________________ Justice Pro Lite (4-5), Justice D-10 (8-5)x2 , Quilter Steelaire, Hilton Pedal, BJ's bar. |

A true stylist and one of the nicest guys one can meet. Plus he also is an expert on the history of recorded steel guitar music!

Nice surprise. Guess I've been away from the Forum for longer than I thought. My website, VinylBeat.com has been taking up a lot of my spare time.
However, I must say that it is fun to tune in and see a post like this. Really appreciate it! I'm not a great player, but I do put a lot into my albums and try to cover ground that others don't tread on, while trying to stay true to how I think the steel should sound.
I have a holiday idea. I still have 10-30 copies of all my albums and they sell glacially (very slowly). If anybody wants any, I'm going to give them away until supplies get low, for the next week or so. Just paypal (joeg5@comcast.net) $3 for shipping per album (or less $ for quantity... make something up) and I'll send them out. Also send me a PM with your address and what you've ordered.
Here's what I have:
- Pickin' My Pleasures (LP)
- Rockin' It (LP)
- All Over The Road (cassette)
- The Goldmark Round-Up (CD) compilation of 3 LPs
- Steelin' The Beatles (CD)
- All Hat - No Cattle (CD)
- Strong Like Bull...But Sensitive Like Squirrel (CD)
- Seducing The '60s (CD)
- The Wham Of That Steel Man (double CD)
What's the over/under on what I'll give away??
